I was just checking rates for a rental car pick-up at the Dolphin for December, and they now charge a Hotel Concession Fee Recovery! Then I checked to see if the Car Care Center had one too - and theirs is called Landlord Concession Fee Recovery - and it's even higher! Anyone know when THAT started?

*Edited to correct my spelling...CONCESSION...not CONFESSION!

I was just about to post about this, I am SO :furious: right now.......I booked my midsize SUV a week ago. My price out the door was 194.99. I used rate code BQW and ID 698805. I had already printed my email and all. Well I went to the Alamo site just to see if it had gone down and at all and found my ressie has gone up-the discount of $18.42 is now listed as a Landlord Concession Fee Recovery and now with taxes it has jumped my total to $241.61. I played around with other codes and cant get it down to what I had it before...how can they add new fees after my ressie has been confirmed??????

I would guess those fees are pass throughs to a large extent and the actual net money is going to Starwood and Disney

I just checked my rates...they went up $30! So I wanted to make a new reservation...it is now over $500 unreal!!

I am going to call tomorrow to see if they will honor the original quote.

edit: I just played with the codes. I now have a full size car from MCO returning to MCO (before I had 2 res. for intermediate - one for 4/11-4/12 from MCO and one for 4/12-4/19 from Car Care) for only pennies more. Check around with those codes! Thank goodness for these boards.

At the bottom of the reservation e-mail it says:

"Total may vary slightly at time of rental based on the election of prepaid gas, optional coverage items or changes in taxes, surcharges and fees"

You can try to get them to waive it but I doubt it.

I did the same thing...am now picking up a standard SUV instead of a midsize SUV for only $7 ($201 including tax) more than my old ressie thru the car care center!

You're paying the 9.8% airport concession fee. If you pick up at the Dolphin it's a ~ 10% hotel concession fee, and an even higher percentage landlord concession fee for pickups at the Car Care Center.

How do you get to the CCC if you are at a resort?

Hi Dan

If you call the CCC, they will send a shuttle to pick you up at your resort and bring you to the CCC.

I find it easy to pick up/drop off at the Dolphin. Usually I'll head to Epcot or MGM first, then walk or boat over to the Dolphin and pickup my car and take it back to my resort. Don't know if this scenario would work better for you also...

HTH!!! :teeth:

I don't want to call it a scam because it is all legal, but National has gotten really sneaky with adding in new fees and discontinuing certain discounts. We have ALWAYS used National when in WDW but have now switched to Budget. We have a deal that couldn't be touched by National before they began padding their bottom line. Since National and Alamo are essentially one company, it's no surprise it is happening with both agencies. It's really too bad because I loved National for their great rates and convenience (Emerald Club, Aisle, Reserve).

No matter where you pickup a rental car the agency has to pay rent or if they own the building they have to pay taxes and other expenses. Traditionally those expenses were taken into account when the agency set their rental rate.

This is nothing more than a scam so the rental car rates look cheaper when customers check rates.

LOL, Nancy. I would still be staying there most likely, was just wondering about various options.

Whew! I've never picked up a rental car at the Car Care Center, but it's a breeze at the Dolphin. :)

YES I booked with American Express code and just checked for my trip on Thursday, they have added some type of fee above the usual airport amd other fees. I will fight it at drop off and after, it added 29.00 to the bill, and I have no intenional of paying , as it is not a mandiated charge.
They added to a new reservation in December which is fine, but don't add it after the fact.

Just giving this a bump...and also need to correct my spelling on my original post..."Concession" not "Confession"!
