Alamo Minivan Question

I noticed on the Alamo site that you can rent two styles of minivans. One is (similar to) a Chevy Uplander and the other is a Toyata Sienna. The Chevy is considerably cheaper. We need the van for 3 adults and 2 teens, plus luggage. From the description, it sounds like the Chevy would be fine but I'm concerned because once we rented from Alamo and got a short van, rather than the extended version, and we were not able to get my dad's wheelchair in it. We had to rent a full size van that cost us a lot more. Has anyone had experience renting the Uplander? After some previously bad experiences with Alamo, I said never again, but they are considerably cheaper than the other companies.

Thanks for any advice.

We had 3 adults, 3 kids, 7 pieces of "checked" luggage, and 5 carry-ons. We did OK in the smaller van. A bit cramped. We even managed on the occasion of moving from one hotel to another, to put all of the pieces of my mom's ECV in there. (Very crunched!)

I hate Alamo, though, and won't rent from there again! Long lines, witchy agent, threats to increase insurance.

We have the same Alamo smaller Chev Uplander rented for our April trip. We have 2 adults and 4 teens. I expect we will have six bags, six carryons, plus a wheelchair. Has anyone had any experience with this type of vehicle? Is the middle seat a bench or two captains? Is there any room to put luggage between the seats?

Also, does Alamo have seperate lanes for the two different types of minivans?

Any insight would be appreciated.

I'm interested too. I didn't know there were two different prices on the vans. When I asked I was told an Uplander or extended Caravan. I thought they were similiar. Could pose a problem for us. :sad1:

There is a big difference in the price of the 2 (Chevy and Toyota) listed on their website. Thanks for all the replies. I am just very cautious when it comes to Alamo.

We just returned this weekend and had an uplander. It is your basic minivan. The second row was 2 captain's chairs and the third row was a bench row. It was plenty roomy for the 2 of us. We have also rented a Sienna, which is more money because it seats 8. The second and third rows of the Sienna are bench seats, each holding 3 people. As with any minivan, luggage space is never that great. In the uplander, we got 3 regular size suitcases in the back area before row 3, plus a rolling backpack and a carryon rolling suitcase.

in the back fold into the floor like the Toyota, Honda or dodge? Are they split?

The back seat does not fold flat/flush to the floor.
