Al Gore uses 20 TIMES as much electricity as you do

Here are some additional facts.

First, the right wing slime machine did not get their information from the ultility and so I wonder what they are basing this report on. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17369241/
But electric company spokeswoman Laurie Parker said the utility never got a request from the policy center and never provided them with any information.
Second, Vice President Gore's office has passed the following information on. http://www.dailykos.com/comments/2007/2/26/21750/6965/394#c394
I just received a very nice thank you email from Vice President Gore's office in Nashville....

Vice President Gore's office also wanted everyone to know:

100 percent of the power the Gores use in their home (and in all their homes though I wouldn't bring this up) is green power.

Both the Vice President and Mrs Gore have home offices and conduct business at the house so obviously they use more power than someone who is just a homeowner

The Gores drive a hybrid, use compact fluorescents, et cetera

And the Gores live a carbon neutral life which means that for every ton of carbon they emit, they also purchase offsets.

But don't turn around and try and tell anyone how good you are to the environment. For the love of Mike, no one's picking up what he's laying down!!!

I agree he shouldn't tell anyone that, but I have never heard that.

But I have no problem with him spreading the word that recycling helps and that 30 million Americans each turning off one unused lamp helps much more than one former VP moving out of his estate ever would.

How is it that some feel the only persons that should be allowed spread that word need to be 100% green(by their standards).

I guess only the Pope should be allowed to celebrate Christmas.
Only chefs should be allowed to send food back at restaurants.
Only mechanics should be allowed to take their car to the shop.
Only Presidents who actually went to war should be allowed to send troops to war.

Where does it end?

Oscar-winning filmmaker Al Gore today expanded his call for Americans to reduce their output of greenhouse gases — the so-called carbon-footprint — adding a demand to cut the rate of adult-onset obesity, which he termed “your gluteal fatprint.”

Speaking to fellow Oscar winners who flew in to Nashville last night for a banquet at his 10,000 square-foot residence, Mr. Gore explained that Americans burn too much carbon-rich fuel, and eat too much fatty food.

While conservative groups have attacked Mr. Gore’s “hypocrisy” on the global-warming issue, since his Tennessee home burns 15 times the electricity of the average home and he often flies on corporate jets, Mr. Gore maintains that he lives a “carbon-neutral” lifestyle because he also invests in solar and wind energy projects to counterbalance his own substantial carbon-footprint.

“Many people don’t realize that I also live a fat-neutral lifestyle,” Mr. Gore said. “While the inconvenient truth is that I’ve gained a few pounds since I beat George Bush at the polls in 2000, I also make large investments in companies that produce bran, sprouts and legumes, thereby reducing my “real feel” weight to around 175.”

Just wanted to put emphasis on the following... the energy the Gore's are using they are paying PLENTY for because it is all GREEN power... produced from wind farms and a variety of other sources... their power costs a lot per kilo versus what the ordinary family uses in the first place.... We spend 3600 a year on regular electric, I wonder what the cost would be if we were using Green power, or if we could even get green power... Also, they are saying that the Gore's are putting solar power panels on the home to further aid power reduction...

But the following should be emphasized since nobody's really talking about the facts....

100 percent of the power the Gores use in their home (and in all their homes though I wouldn't bring this up) is green power.

Both the Vice President and Mrs Gore have home offices and conduct business at the house so obviously they use more power than someone who is just a homeowner

Is this meant to be funny, critical, witty or just another attempt to ignore the message because I might have to do something I don't want, by picking holes in the messenger

This will just be a Red Rag to some Bulls on here, it will not be good enough.

i just saw this on msnbc the fact that they use green power was way more expensive than using regular energy

the fact is this man does more than most on the environment
this is all about politics and trying to knock gore down because of his press he is getting
and no matter wha tyou about saving the environemnt bush has done little to nothing about it

It is meant to be satire. Nelson also writes for the Fox Half Hour News Hour which is just as funny at the above attempt at satire.

Gotta love how buying a tree became "purchasing carbon offsets" Ahhh America. ::goodvibes

The thing that amazes me the most about this whole dust up is how Al Gore got caught red handed, but should have realised that press and his opponents would be watching him. Like it or not, he's the face of the Global warming debate in this country and has been pushing this issue for a long time. Him owning this older, huge house that isn't energy efficient by any means, was a bad PR move. With the wealth he has accumulated over the years he could have easily built a state of the art "green home" loaded with every new "green" feature and could have used that home as a showcase for the ideas preaches about. He could have literally led the way with that new, high tech home, but he probably was arrogant enough to think he wouldn't be found out. Arrogance is a common trait among hypocrites. To me he's no different than Bill Bennett talking about morals then being exposed as a habitual gambler. He can talk about updating the house all he wants to and how much carbon offsets he purchases, but he's lost the high ground in this debate. Bottom line he doesn't need that big of a home and all the excuses in the world aren't going to cover that fact.

Exactly.

Are we here still debating whether or not Gore's excessive lifestyle is actually green or not?

Let's face it, Gore is not the poster child for environmentally friendly living. He's not out clubbing baby seals or anything, but if he wants to have any level of credibility with the average American, he really needs to cut back.

Why would an environmentalist live in such a huge house? Sure, he uses "greener" energy and lightbulbs and may or may not be getting solar, but he could save a whole lot more energy if he would just live a semi-normal sized life.

Again, I just want to say that it comes as absolutely no surprise to me when a politician reveals himself to be talking out of both sides of his mouth. Politicans are famous for it, it's part of the job description.
