Al Gore uses 20 TIMES as much electricity as you do

Well I'm not sure he's either dead wrong or dead right. But, if he's going to talk the talk, he should walk the walk...
According to an article in the Tennessee paper, he is walking the walk even though conservatives may be unable to understand the concept. http://www.thetennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070227/NEWS01/702270382
Gore's power bill shows, however, that the former vice president may be doing just that.

Gore purchased 108 blocks of "green power" for each of the past three months, according to a summary of the bills.

That's a total of $432 a month Gore paid extra for solar or other renewable energy sources.

The green power Gore purchased in those three months is equivalent to recycling 2.48 million aluminum cans or 286,092 pounds of newspaper, according to comparison figures on NES' Web site.

NES joined the TVA program in 2000 to give power customers a way to support environmentally sound sources of electricity.....

"Every family has a different carbon footprint," said Kalee Krider, a spokeswoman for Gore. The Gores' 10,000-square-foot house on Lynnwood Boulevard has a large one.

The Green Power Switch program isn't all that Gore and his wife, Tipper, are doing, Krider said.

They use compact fluorescent light bulbs and are in the midst of a renovation project that includes having solar panels installed on their home to reduce fossil fuel consumption, she said.

Their car? A Lexis hybrid SUV.

Ohhhh well I am soooooooo glad that they are on the cutting edge of this and that they are "planning" on installing solar panels now.:lmao: :rotfl2:

What a total joke. There is absolutely NO reason that if he was a real environmentalist that they would have utilized this stuff 5 or 6 years ago.

The only reason I'm sure they are doing it is because they know even THEY couldn't get away with being that big of a hypocrite after winning an Oscar.

And buying green tags as they are called is also a total joke. Buying green tags is NOT utilizing green power. All power goes into the grid be it from green friendly hydro, wind etc., to coal plants and nukes. Buying green tags is a mere whacko "feel good" method to say "hey I'm doing my part too," it DOES NOT directly link with green friendly power sources such as a particular solar, wind or hydro power source.

WHAT A JOKE!:rotfl: :rotfl2:

He's not wrong about the environment. He's wrong when he tells the poor and middle class to turn down their heat, turn off their AC, turn off their lights, don't drive this kind of car and so on while he and his rich friends do whatever they want and purchase "offsets". That's where he's wrong.
Have you calculated your carbon footprint yet? Here is a link for a calculator. http://www.climatecrisis.net/takeaction/carboncalculator/ After you have calculated your carbon footprint, this link tells you have to purchase offsets. http://www.nativeenergy.com/Splash/ClimateCrisis/ClimateCrisis.html?climatecrisis My offsets would be less than $400 per year and I have a decent size home and drive a SUV. Before you start complaining how mean it is for only the rich to be able to afford to purchase offsets, you really should do the math.

My snake oil bill would be $192/year.

No thanks - if I'm going to burn money, I'll just do it in my fireplace and save myself a stamp. :thumbsup2

You do realize that this one of the urban legends that has been show to be false.
http://www.snopes.com/quotes/internet.asp BTW, in case you are interested, Vice President Gore was award a life time achievement award for helping the development of the internet. http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/Cybershake/story?id=833922&page=1&CMP=OTC-R
Officials at the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences honored Gore with the Webby Lifetime Achievement award in recognition of his pivotal role in the development of the Internet over the last 30 years.

Gore had been skewered during the 2000 presidential campaign for his remarks that suggested he was the Net's creator. But Vinton Cerf, one of the scientists who helped craft the actual Internet architecture, acknowledged that Gore was responsible for crafting important legislation and lending needed political support for "the information superhighway."
In other words, this talking point is false.

BTW, it is an urban legend that he claimed to invent the internet. The quote posted by beachblanket is not an urban legend, as you claim.

Inventors must need large homes.

(You've got to store all those research books and widgets somewhere.)

I got mine, the earth can't support yours.

Did you go back and purchase offsets for prior years, or don't they count?

:lmao: Welcome to the "real America"...here in Texas we are being gouged beyond belief.
In fact TXU is in the news and they are being "bought out" and supposedly going to reduce our energy bills 10%...yea right.:lmao:
My electricity bills used to be higher than Vice President Gore at my old home (which one reason we sold it). The old home was only 3500 square feet and over 40 years old but was hard to keep cool. The natural gas bill was not bad but air conditioning is what kills you down here in Texas. I recently ended up selling that home and getting a new construction house with a radiant barrier. So far my electricity bills are a great deal smaller but I have only been in the house for less than a month. The test will be the bills in the summer but according the builder, I should be one-third the bill that I used to be paying.

BTW, I love the radiant barrier but the downside is that you get poor cell phone reception inside the house. Since I use a land line inside the house this was not a big deal.

The attack on Al Gore here has been at best silly. From what I read, his house is 60 years old and is over 10,000 SF. Yes a bigger house will use more electricity but compared to my old house, the Gores appear to be using less power than I was at my smaller home. An older and larger home is going to use more energy compared to a newer smaller home.

So, have YOU purchased your offsets, yet?
No but I sold my old house and purchased a more energy efficient home with a radiant barrier to reduce my energy usage (carbon footprint). Again, the energy efficiency of my new home was an important consideration and I went with a home with a radiant barrier for that reason. The window treatment people are trying to sell me a window treatment that may further reduce my power bill.

I intend to look at carbon offsets but I have only been in the home for less than a month. After I get a feel for what it costs to keep the house cool, I may look at the additional window treatment and at energy offsets.

I consider myself as Middle class, but have never heard him say to turn off my AC or lights.

So you passed the problem on to someone else.

I have a question: How did someone find out how much electricity Al Gore uses? I wasn't aware that was public knowledge.

The reason why I ask is I heard an interview with Drew Johnson of the Tenn. group and he was very vague about where his information came from. As a matter of fact, he took Gore to task for not using the new lightbulbs, but really couldn't explain how he knew that.

Did Drudge elaborate?

Yanno, other than accepting Drudge's report as gospel truth, has anyone checked the facts? Or do they no longer matter?

Call me a cynic, but I smell a rat here.
