I am renting points from a DVC member and I have a question about the AKV. We are going 0ct 12th-17th and we are staying in a Value studio. From what i've read there are "dedicated" areas for DVC members since they are still in the process of building kidani village. So where in the resort are the VS located? :confused3 Is it possible that i could have something other than a parking of view? (not that i'd mind it i am lucky enough to be staying at this resort at all!!)
Any help would be much appreciated.

with a value studio - now they are smaller than the standard or savannah view.

you could be parking, swimming or even savannah view on the 5th floor of the AKL.

So they are all located on the 5th floor?
Are they all pre-determined or when i check in could I casually and Politely ask if i could NOT have a parking lot view? :rolleyes1
lol I honestly won't care if they can't, its just that my boyfriend and I are going on this vacation and I want it to be slightly romantic and since romance is not something that comes to my boyfriends mind very often it would be nice to give him some encouragement. ;)
Let me know some opinons, i've never stayed at the AKL or AKV so who knows maybe alittle pixie dust will come my way pixiedust:

Does your confirmation say a Dedicated studio?

If you have a dedicated value studio then you have a 50/50 shot at a pool view or savanna view. If it's a lock off then you have a 40/40/20 shot at pool/savanna/parking lot view.

In Jan we were lucky enough to get a savanna view, I hope you do to!

Have your DVC owner who made the reservation put in a request attached to the reservation for either "savanna view" or "savanna or pool view." There is no guarantee that request will be met but requesting in advance as part of reservation is best shot at getting it. The resort has five floors except for a 6th floor around the lobby area. All AKV villas are on the 5th (usually top) floor, except that the 6th above the lobby contains the AKV concierge rooms.

Note, even if you get "parking lot" view, it is not really bad. There are lots of trees and foliage on that side of the building and you hardly see the parking lot.

We've heard of at least one case where someone had a dedicated studio reserved and was given a lockoff studio when they checked in. So in theory a reservation for a dedicated Value studio should eliminate the possibility of a parking lot view but in practice....??

Word on the street is that there are many a surveilance camera for security reasons w/ the animals. Depending on the angle, they might catch glimpses of the guest's room. Might want to keep that in the back of your mind so you pay attention to location when the romance comes to your boyfriend's mind

Lisa, not that it matters but this one case was with the savanna view room right? Rather then the value? It would seem with so few values they would have to keep a really tight grip on the number of bookings and the types....maybe it's wishful thinking on my part but maybe the values will do better at keeping the correct kind of room.

I have a funny story about this. My daughter is just learning to read, so she tries to read everything. Well on the sliding glass door there is a warning about cameras and to close your curtains for privacy. So she tried to read this and so we explained it to her and my other younger daughter. So a couple of days later my youngest daughter (who is 4) came out of the rest room in just her underwear and saw that my oldest daughter was about to go out side and screamed, "I"M NAKED - CLOSE THAT DOOR" :lmao:

We all got a laugh out of it.

AKV is so new I'm not sure we can say yet whether the dedicated category is guaranteed or whether they just do their best to honor it when assigning rooms. We don't know whether the front desk staff will "cave" when someone assigned to a parking lot view studio insists on being moved so they end up giving away my dedicated Value studio because I haven't checked in yet. So I'm hesitant to say that a reservation for a dedicated Value studio guarantees you will not get a parking lot view. I think it's too early to tell.

The case that has been reported concerned me because there are a lot of dedicated Savanna View studios and yet the person who had one reserved didn't get one. Now maybe whoever chose their room opted to give them a better view and that meant putting them in a lockoff instead or maybe they just missed the word "dedicated" on the reservation or maybe they just consider them equivalent accommodations. I just think we need more data before we can be sure that a reservation for a dedicated studio is guaranteed.
