I've been lurking for quite a while, and this is my first post here.

Background: We absolutley love WDW and try to travel to WDW each year staying Deluxe, usually two rooms for 5 adults (myself, 2 adult DD's, DD's hubby and his mom). We'll be staying at AKL in Sept. (first time for SIL & his mom) and are planning on touring DVC. Moms are considering purchasing enough AKV points to stay one week in a 2 bdrm. villa once a year during summer months. Or a Grand Villa every other year, so extended family can join us.

I have a couple of questions......
1) If we purchase two contracts at the same time, can we each use points from our contracts for one villa?
2) If we purchase one contract can I designate my half to be left equally to my two daughters in my living trust, and the same with her and her two sons without losing anything?
3) We haven't called to talk to anyone at DVC yet. Thought we would wait until we arrive and schedule then. Unless anyone knows of someone really helpful and knowledgable that we can ask for in advance. I would love to speak to someone now, but I'm afraid that I'll get someone that doesn't know much and be "linked" to their name for our future visit.

Bottom line is we spend so much money each year on Deluxe's, we thought this would be a great way for us to continue vacationing in WDW when our kids have families and they may not be able to afford to go otherwise. And be able to leave our DVC contract(s) to them to enjoy.

TIA from 2 Calif. moms hoping to do the right thing.

1- Both of you could use points for a single reservation but not for a single night unless one of you transferred points to the other. You can't transfer banked points, but you can bank transferred points. Each contract owner could make reservations for half the nights and get the reservation linked.

2 - Your contract would remain a single contract and could not be divided up. The only way to do that is fory you to purchase two contracts and leave one to each daughter. One would have to be at least 160 points the Disney minimum purchase unless you already own points. She would have to do the same. So you'd need a minimum of four contracts to leave them equally to the two daughters and two sons.

I have dealt with Gib McCain at DVC and he is very knowledgable. We went for a number of years staying at Deluxe sometimes and Moderate other times. I've had DVC for 7 years now and get many more trips than we would have if we had to pay for ressies each time. I just love DVC and recommend it highly.

Welcome to the DIS! :)

You could each reserve some of the nights for any joint reservations you wish to make. As noted already, you can't really combine the points, but as long as you each use points to reserve individual days of the stay, MS can link everything together for you.

You can designate your ownership in a will, but it cannot be divided into smaller contracts at a later date - the beneficiaries would just have joint control of the membership.

I would discourage you from joint ownership with another family. While it would likley accomplish what you want, if there were ever legal/financial problems for anyone on the deed, it could affect the contract as it would be considered an asset. IMO, the few benefits of the joint ownership could be lost when those benefits can be handled in other means - and MS will assist towards that goal.

There are many great guides - Gib is one and I can personally recommend Ken Bradshaw as another.

Enjoy taking the tour - it's a fun experience.

We can recommend Ken as well. He is our guide and took us around last week when we purchased. We originally saw Ken in Spring 2002, but were not ready to buy back then. Last week, we went through the most low-pressure sales pitch in timeshare history and ended up purchasing. He was absolutely great in helping us go through all types of questions and situations. We were pretty set to purchase that day, but he advised us to take a couple of days, work the numbers and see what would work for us (SSR or AKV? - 160 or 175 or 200 or ???). When we called back to process our purchase, I think it took all of about 10 minutes.

BTW, it was most impressive walking in to the DVC presentation and the same guy who showed you through 5 years ago stays with you and brings up the questions that we had 5 years ago from all of the notes he took. I don't know if other timeshare companies do this, but it gives you a great sense of continuity in the program...

When we purchased our point (510) we split them into 3 separate contracts (170 each) so we could leave them to our kids with ease. Also - if we someday decide to sell (unlikely but one never knows) it seems to be easier to unload normal sized contracts as opposed to massive ones.

I'm not sure if your other question was whether or not your dd's in-laws could combine their points with your points or if you can make reservations from multiple contracts that you would own...

Our three contracts are ours and we can make reservations interchangeably with all three.

If we were to combine our points with someone else's - someone would have to transfer points to us or vice versa - you wouldn't be able to transfer banked points.

I HTH! Have a great time!!:)
