Will more villas open up after the new savanna opens? I want to try a 1 bedroom kidani savanna view for my November trip but so far it's all booked. Just wondering what my waitlist chances might be?

Any news on a exact opening date?

Phase 2 of Kidani Village which includes the Pembe Savanna is reportedly set to open in early September. I suspect that the villas that will be available for point reservations are already in the system and booked.

I found this on allears and it gave me a glimmer of hope but now I'm not so sure.

Kidani Village officially opened on May 1, 2009 with approximately 65% of the villas available and all the amenities. The remained of the resort will open in September 2009. This final phase will be the Pembe savannah and the last third of the villas.

What really matters is how many of the rooms will be available to be booked on points. With only about half of AKV's units declared into the condominium association, only about half of the rooms are available to be booked on points. The other half still belong to Disney so they are only available for cash booked through Disney reservations. Fortunately DVC members are not restricted to staying in the just the declared units so the room assigner can opt to put members into rooms facing the Pembe Savanna once those rooms open. But overall, members are restricted to occupying only the percentage of rooms that are part of DVC and right now, that is about 50% or so.

To clarify, in placing members in rooms they do not distinguish between those units undeclared into DVC (or unsold) and those still not declared into the DVC system for sale. The member can be placed in any room that is available for occupancy. That only 50% of the resort may have been sold simply means that DVC members are entitled to only 50% of the total occupancy time of the resort, but they can occupy any available rooms. Thus once the new rooms are open for occupancy, members can and will be placed into them regardless of whether any of them are declared into DVC

I'm confused. :confused3

Are all the rooms open for reservations/use now or will some more become available in early September?

MS said that more would be available in Sept. but I'm not convinced she understood my question.

There are more rooms opening in September. The rooms in the north wing starting with those opposite the pool area all the way to the end of that wing are supposed to open at that time. I suspect they already made their best guess about the percentage of rooms that could be used for DVC members and have already reserved the maximum number of rooms allowed. As I stated earlier, DVC members can still be assigned to rooms in the Pembe Savanna area even if they are not yet declared into the condominium association, but overall, members are restricted to occupying only the percentage of rooms that are part of DVC and right now, that is about 50% or so. So just because more rooms are in Kidani's inventory as of September X, it doesn't mean there will be more rooms available to book on points. For that to happen, DVC needs to sell more Kidani Village points and sales seem to be pretty slow there.

As noted above, just because all those rooms will suddenly become available for occupancy does not mean they will all suddenly open for new reservations in Sep, Oct or Nov. In accepting reservations many months before now for Nov, they would have anticipated room availability for Nov and thus accepted reservations on the assumption those new rooms would be available in Nov. You still have a chance for having waitlist honored but not simply because new rooms are opening.

There has not been any Declarations by DVD for AKV since November 21, 2008 (recorded by Orange County Comptroller on December 11, 2008. What this means is that the number of villas available to DVC membership for booking on points has remained the same since that date. With the Pembe Savanna opening on 9/1/2009, the villas we have to choose from has increased, but not the total number that we can book. TSMIII has been tracking the Declarations for AKV in his thread (see http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1783357&page=5, Post #62). It shows the number of villas declared for the DVC, and the number still under the control of DVD. A few posts below TSMIII's post is a map showing the location of the Pembe Savanna.

Wdrl, thanks for the explanation, it's appreciated! :teacher:
