Was thinking of staying at AKV for 4 nites before a cruise...do any of the AKV buses go straight to any other Disney resorts, or do the buses only go to the parks? :goodvibes

The buses only run from the resort to the parks and to Downtown Disney. They don't share with any other resorts.

only parks - and we did not find using AK as a place to pick up resort busses to be very efficient since most AK-resort busses share stops with a water park (and often multiple resorts).

Only to the parks and DTD.

Although there have been occasional reports of drivers dropping people off at the resorts for early character breakfasts if they have time after a park run.

Currently, there are no resort-to-resort buses for any of the resorts (except for multi-resort bus lines like CR/Poly/GF and BW/S&D/BC/YC). To get to another resort you'll need to take a bus/boat/walk to a Theme Park or DD and then change to another bus/boat/walk to get to another resort.

At one time, there was limited bus transport between BWV and CSR but that service has been discontinued. CSR is a convention destination and bus transportation was provided from that location when the BW area was heavily promoted as an evening destination. With the decline in facilities like Atlantic Dance the decision was made to discontinue bus service from CSR.

This is interesting, because I knew AKV had their own buses that went straight to the parks...I never thought about the water parks! So maybe its not as fast as expected. Well AKV sounds like they have a good CS and buffet, so I could take the DTD bus for other restaraunts. It is straight to DTD and back, right?

AKL has busses that go straight to the other parks - but most other resort busses stop at a waterpark and Animal Kingdom. It's really quick to get to AK from AKL via. a bus - and so it *seemed* like that would be a good place to pick up other resort busses for dining/etc - but it ended up being a HUGE mistake. Picking up a bus to try to go to BWV from Animal Kingdom park - the bus stopped at a waterpark, YC/BC, Swan, Dolphin AND BW!! I'd have been better off taking an AKL bus straight to EPCOT or MGM and gotten to a resort from there.

Thanks for your info Starbox! Still tryin to decide between SSR and AKV. Really want to try the concierge at AKV....if the buses go to DTD (straight there), than DDP won't seem so bad, between the restaraunts at AKV and DTD. Its only for 4 nites. :wizard:

When Typhoon Lagoon is open the bus to DD will also stop there - on the way to DD in the mornings and on the way back in the afternoons. Most of the buses from other resorts have the same schedule when going to AK - they stop at Blizzard Beach either coming or going.

The bus schedule for AKL/AKV is no better/worse than any of the other parks. It just depends on what your destination plans may be.

Enjoy! :)

Ditto the above.

We found MGM...well, I guess we have to start calling it DHS, now....to be the best "transfer point".

Epcot was good, too, but the buses seemed more crowded (both to and from)....and using Epcot as a transfer point to/from the Epcot resorts actually seemed counterproductive, which surprised me. We had to use a ticket to get through EPCOT and exit via International Gateway, which took awhile. There MAY have been busses, too, but I didn't see them. We found it easier to take the bus to MGM and either use the walkway or the boats.

There are no buses at Epcot to the Epcot resorts so using MGM as a transfer spot is certainly the easiest.

To get to the MK resorts, take the MK bus and then transfer to the monorail or boat. No boat to CR but it's a fairly short walk from the MK bus stop.

Getting to DTD is never fast IMO due to all the lights along Lake Buena Vista as well as the stops within DTD.

After all of this info, now I think SSR just has to be the best resort for DDP with no parks. Thought for a moment maybe AKV with its direct buses would also be okay, but its not seeming so.

Ignoring EVERYTHING except access to DDP participating restaurants:

WITH parks: Epcot resorts

WITHOUT parks: SSR and OKW. SSR gets the slight edge because it CAN be a shorter jaunt to DTD, which has lots of offerings and will get you directly to pretty much every resort.

IMHO. :)

Thanks pilferk! Gotta go with SSR. Hey, don't forget to post that internet connection process when you go to the world in January! I know...:offtopic: :goodvibes

We leave in less than a week, and the router is packed and ready to go.

Here's the problem, though: Reportedly, DVC members (that's me!) will get free internet "in 2008". If that really does start 1/1/08....well, depending on their implementation, there may not be a "challenge" screen anymore.

So about the best I'll be able to do is report whether or not the router works.

I agree....I have used MGM as a transfer spot....It is not to far from
AKV....and probably on the way to wherever you are going...

Seems the bus loading area is smaller so walking over to the next bus
is easier.
If it is late....just take a taxi.

When did they stop the boat between the CR and MK?

Many years ago I thought. There is a boat that goes from the CR to WL/FW though. I'll double check on the CR boat but I don't think there's been one since the bus depot opened at the MK and therefore CR guests could walk to the MK. Many years ago, walking was impossible as there was no entrance there.

wow, i must have been hallucinating in Feb 2006 when we took the boat from CR to MK...

:goodvibes Maybe just having lots of Disney fun. Really there hasn't been a dock at the MK for the CR in years.

Anyway, I found a thread that lists the current watercraft routes in the MK area. You could pm Endeavor if you like. He or she is a watercraft operator.
