We are going to be planning a trip which will include my in-laws - my husband, myself and our 3 kids (12,12,5). So in total 4 adults and 3 kids. We will be staying at AKV - our home and was wondering if there are any major differences between a 2BR lock off or a dedicated 2BR.

I have looked at the floor plans and they don't seem to be too different but i wanted to know from those of you who have stayed there before.

A lock-off 2-bedroom is a studio and a 1-bedroom with an interior connecting door. The studio becomes the second bedroom and will have a queen bed and sleeper sofa. The lock-off will also have 2 exterior doors (1 each in studio & 1-bedroom). The lock-off will also have a full kitchen (1-bedroom side) and a kitchenette (studio side).

A dedicated 2-bedroom can only be reserved as a two bedroom. It will have 2 queen beds in the second bedroom and only 1 exterior door.

Jambo House only has lock-off 2-bedrooms, while Kidani Village has both lock-offs and dedicated 2-bedrooms. The Kidani Village 2-bedrooms are approx. 100 square feet larger than those at Jambo House and the KV 2-bedrooms will have 3 bathrooms where the JH 2-bedrooms only have 2 bathrooms.

NOTES: BCV is unique in that some dedicated 2-bedrooms have 2 queens and some have a queen and a sleeper sofa. They are both booking categories.
OKW is also unique in that all studios have 2 queen beds.

A lot depends on where you plan to have everyone sleep- if your children are sleeping in the studio portion you may prefer them not to have an exit door. If your in-laws are in the studio and get up earlier having their own coffee maker may be nice.

Jambo has only lock-offs and the rooms are both smaller and not as nice as the 2BRs at Kidani. Kidani has both lock-off and dedicated 2BRs. What I consider a deciding difference between the lock-off and dedicated at Kidani is the balcony when you have savanna view. The lock-off has a barrier wall that separates the studio and 1BR on the balcony. The dedicated has one long balcony running across both bedrooms and the living room, making it the preferred balcony for families in a 2BR.

That is great information!! That is something that you really can not figure out from the floor plan sketches. That helped to make our decision!! Thanks so much!

My kids sleep in the living room anyways so when we travel with my parents, we book a lock-off. They get their own studio and their privacy. When we travel with my sister's family (4 people, girls ages 7 & 4), we book the dedicated so that they all get to sleep in real beds. It's truly a matter of personal preference and who is in your travel party.
