AKL Which Savannah?

We will spend the first 3 nights of our upcoming WDW vacation at AKL. It will be our first visit - and seeing the animals is a MAJOR priority. We have a Savannah room reserved, however I have noted that different Savannah's seem to offer better views. Please advise me which Savannahs are the best and also do I request a specific savannah on my reservation or do I just ask for it at check in?

This is something I'm trying to figure out as well - we have about a month and a half til our trip. I want to think Arusha comes highly recommended.

Here's a question for the pro's that check out this thread later today. . is it pronounced "a-rush-a" or "a-roosh-a" or some other pronunciation? LOL!

Good question! According to this recent thread, members here have also suggested the Arusha Savannah.

I LOVE AKL. Going back for third stay in December.
The CMs (and I ) say "a-roosh-a";
I would request Arusha Savanna; Zebra Trail. The Arusha is the only sav. w/ zebras and the Zebra Trail will put you on the same side of the bldg. as the rest., pool, gift shop, main elevators, food court and kids' club...

We recently were at the AKL and stayed on the Sunset, but toured around a lot and saw different views of all three. Every evening we would have 3 or 4 giraffes feeding right off our balcony. There were also times where you wouldn't see much at all. I would imagine all three have areas that are "hit or miss" as the animals move around all the time. From my observations and in no particular order:

1. Arusha Savannah - central location, huge outdoor animal viewing area (Arusha Rock), only savannah with Zebra.

2. Sunset Savannah - on the left side of hotel (looking from the front), didn't seem as large, but apparantly is, only savannah with Ostrich.

3. Uzima Savannah - on the right side of hotel (looking from the front), also seemed smaller than Arusha, only savannah with Kudu.

Giraffes are found on all three savannahs. I'm sure there are great (and not so great) views on all three. You could always ask to see a couple of different rooms/views at check in and decide then.

You won't be disappointed with the AKL.

Thanks for the replies - sounds like we would like to stay on Arusha = but still not sure when to ask - now on my reservation or when we check-in?

I don't know how to do a link so I copied and pasted.

But first, I just got back from room 4501 and loved it. When I arrived we were on the Sunset Savannah but I had them change it before I even went to the room to the Arusha Savannah, Zebra trail. I learned that here. We loved our room.

If, however, you get to your room and don't like it, have them change it. Apparently, that is done frequently.

Now, this is from the previous post I don't know how to link. I printed this and took it with me to check-in and told him I wanted one of the rooms the bellhop suggested.

We were at akl in sept 2003, in a sav view room. In our first room, the view was horrible, I was upset. Before the bellhop left, he circled areas on my map, and told me to go to the front desk and request another room. He waited with dh and dd (2 at the time) till I got back with the new room keys.
The bad room was 3407....viewed a rock
the new room was 3507.....great sav view. These rooms are on the zebra trail.

Here are other room numbers the bellhop suggested

zebra trail 2423-2437, 3423-3437, 4423-4437,5423-5437
2501-2515, 3501-3515, 4501-4515, 5501-5515

We are headed back in Dec abd I have requested zebra trail 2501-2515.....you are centered in the sav, and eye level with the animals"
