I want to get a standard room with bunk beds at the AKL for a December trip. What room preferences should I make so that I don't have a parking lot view or dumpster view :D
Where are the best standard rooms? Thanks all!

We just returned from a stay at AKL standard view room. We were not impressed with the view we had, but it was not near the busses so we didn't have alot of noise! We were on Giraffe Trail in room 4011 and had a view of the entrance/valet and parking lot across the road with some trees. We were close to the elevators. We had 2 queen size beds. Ostrich trail is the other trail with standard rooms and is further away from the parking lot and busses - not sure what the view would be on that trail? good luck!

I also stayed on Giraffe Trail. The room was on the 4th floor (don't get 3rd floor- it's even with the walkway to the buses) and was two rooms from the end of the trail. Nice quiet hallway and the view was of some greenery and the parking lot. But it was a short elevator ride from the pool and food venues, so we thought it was a good location. It was a queen/bunk room. We did not find the buses to be distrubing even though we were close to the bus stops because the air system in the room was like "white noise" to cover the sound.

We just got back too and had standard view rooms on Ostrich Trail. We were on the third floor but these were the quietest rooms we have ever had at a Disney resort. We were in room 3125 and it had a king bed and sofa and connected to 3127. These rooms were by the handicap parking but not quite far enough to be right on top of it. Lots of trees and flowering bushes so the view wasn't bad at all.

Just so no one mistunderstands:
"Standard View" rooms at AKL are not "standard" in the usual English meaning of the word. According to the AKL FAQ thread, as many as 90% of the rooms at AKL are "Savannah View", and the remainder are either "Pool View" or "Standard View". So "Standard View" is *supposed* to be the worst view available, hence the attractive rates and limited availability. If you ask for and get a Standard View room, and the view is tolerable, consider yourself lucky.

Just wondering do these standard view rooms all have balconies
that you can sit out on?

It is my understanding that all rooms have balconies. Correct me if I'm wrong though!

When we first checked into AKL our rooms were on the fifth floor. We did not have any balconies. It was just a slab of cement with a hole cut out of the thatched roof. We didn't even have any chairs out there so I assumed they didn't figure anyone would want to use them. Our rooms were standard views and these particular rooms were over the area by the front door where the valets stand. We were very disappointed with this so my DH went down to the front desk to see if we could be changed. The CM at check in wasn't even aware that these rooms with no balconies even existed so she went to talk to the room controller. He was so nice to us about it and changed us right away. They did all the moving for us. We then got the rooms on the third floor Ostrich Trail that were absolutely wonderful.
