just got back from a last minute trip to AKL from the 5th throough the 7th of July. We had a group of 10 people, myself and wife, mom and dad and 4 year old son in a 2 bdr suite. My Brother in law and his family got a concierge deluxe savannah view. I have stayed in the 2 br suites here before but our room this time had a pretty blah view. We were in room 2581 with a view of the hippo tank (hot tub). I was dissappointed. The room had a little bit of a bitter vinigar smell to it.... no big deal. We stayed the first night comfortably, we ate at Boma and it was excellent as usual!! On the morning of the 2nd night I went to concierge to grab some snacks and got to talking to the CM. The subject of the presidential suites came up and he said that a young family was occupying the presidential and had been there for 20 days!! He also stated that the VP suite was supposed to be occupied but the family never showed. He took me down there and we walked through. When we came back he called the manager and offered me an upgrade.... Duh! I was on that!! So we moved and extended our stay through Friday! I will attempt to attach some pics of the room. It is the Royal Kuba Suite and I was very pleased with the overall package. Pics are posted here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=857499

The Good: The room was great, the food was even better and the atmosphere at AKL was the best.

The bad : The heat was unbearable. I live in Florida but still cannot deal with 97 degree temps, no breeze and people all over you. We went to the parks early, stayed through a quick lunch and left. The crowds were pretty big and sometimes just waiting for a bus made you feel like not making it! We also went to Downtown Disney for a night and returned at 12 PM (midnight) to see bus lines at Downtown that were huge. We then got on the wrong bus! After we went to CBR and everybody but us got off the bus I asked the driver if AKL was next.... he said no he was going back to Downtown! Nooooooo....... I slipped him a $20 and he ran us up to AKL in an empty bus. Truth be known, I would have paid more!!!

I visit the resorts about every 3 months and I gotta tell you there really isnt a "slow Season" anymore. There used to be a time when the winter months meant no lines or waits but it has been at capacity for 2 years now. The resorts are often sold out in Jan and Feb. Economy must be doing OK I guess........ I have learned that hanging in the resorts and enjoying the rooms and atmosphere is well worth the trip. We make planned quick trips to the parks to specific rides or meals and then just amble back to the room. My son is 4 and he cant take prolonged time in the parks anyway. His favorite thing to do is ride the train around the MK. He waits for a specific color train, rides it for 4 or 5 loops and gets off and waits for the next color train. When it is hot this works great!!!

Enjoyed reading your report ~ Thanx for posting.

I think I need to clarify... the upgrade was not free, but at a discount!
