Hello!

I booked a AKL Standard view room at Jambo house mainly because pool view rooms weren't available. I was curious if there is a specific Trail or area that we should try and request to get an ok view? The only view I am desperate to avoid is an ugly roof view.

What are the odds of getting an OK view with the standard rooms and if anyone did have a good view and wants to post and share I'd appreciate it!

Thanks!

Following along! We booked Savannah view but now I'm having second thoughts. It's just alot of extra $$$!

I KNOW RIGHT? I got the enchanted escape offer and that really helped with staying onsite. I had a pool view before and it was PERFECT but none are available :( I've been crunching numbers for all the resorts and I think this is the best option for us. I'm just trying to stay positive!

We booked a standard room a few years ago. I requested "Kudu Trail View", and that was it. I was pleasantly surprised when I got the text with our room number and it was an "obstructed" savanna view room. It was wonderful! We were on the second floor and near a fence, but we saw plenty of animals all day every day. Even if you don't get an obstructed view room, there are a lot of places to see animals throughout the resort. It is lovely!

Awesome, thanks for the info. I was thinking of requesting the Zebra trail since its close to the pool, mara and a laundry but I'm scared of getting a really poor view on that side......

Where would I request if I want to be close to the lobby and pool? I’m assuming the Mara in the lobby or close to it?

The mara is close to the pool and the lobby if I remember correctly. I would think Zebra or Giraffe trail, however Giraffe trail can face the parking lot or roofs so IDK if you want to request that....

Following. I have a Standard View booked for Aug and I am wondering the same!

Like someone mentioned, it says obstructed view but there wasn’t anything obstructed where we were. We saw tons of animals from our standard room. We also got to watch the giraffes eat!

Wow! Thanks for this. I know what I am going to request now.
No problem! Our first night we were actually in a different area but they were able to move us to the kudu trail for the rest of our nights.

We stayed at AKL Jambo in a standard room last April. During online check-in, I requested "near paddock" and nothing else. We had amazing animal views 24/7, including giraffes. Some standard view rooms don't have the sweeping savannah view, but instead are close to a watering hole or feeding area, and/or facing another side of the building, but still have lots of animals nearby. That's what we got. We looked at another wing of the building, but it was not close at all, so that was fine. There was a watering hole several yards outside our balcony, and I was amazed to see animals out there constantly.

If "near paddock" is no longer an online check-in option, call & request the Kudu Trail.

“Near paddock” is a request applicable to SSR. A year or more ago it started showing up as an online check in choice at several resorts, I saw it w/ a GF reservation online check in of mine. I think choosing ‘near paddock’ had nothing to do w/ where you ended up. I guess the people pens could be considered a sort of paddock and rooms/villas overlooking the people pens are generally classified as standard view these days, but my bet is Disney IT glitched.
Personally I call and have any preferences added to my reservation since the online check in choices are so generic these days.

Are the standard view rooms on the zebra trail far from transportation and the Mara?
I suspect that Zebra trail has the fewest standard view rooms/villas. Half face Arusha savanna and are likely all classified as savanna view - perhaps the rooms at the very end of Zebra trail might be standard view? The rooms on the other side of Zebra trail face either Uzima savanna or the pool - and pool view is a bootable category for rooms (but not villas.) A few rooms/villas fronting Uzima savanna may overlook people pens and be classified as standard view and a few in the first pod facing the pool may overlook roofs and be classified as standard view.
Zebra trail is very convenient to the Mara & the pool and w/ a first stay, w/ savanna view booked, Zebra trail is the request I’d recommend. For a standard view I’d ask for Kudu trail to increase my chances of getting a partial savanna view - but that does involve a bit more walking to the Mara and pool. The lobby lies between Zebra/Giraffe trails and Kudu/Ostrich trails.

I actually confirmed my online check-in info with the AKL front desk at the beginning of our stay, and they confirmed that we had been assigned the "near paddock" room that we had requested.

The fact that there have been occassional IT glitches with online check-in doesn't mean that the system doesn't work. Disney gets IT glitches in all online departments: resort booking, dining booking, FastPasses, etc., but no one is going to stop using those systems, because overall, they work.

Oo thank you for that detailed information, which trail was your room located?

Do the options for check - in change as we get closer to the date?

When I looked today, and I'm 7 months out... the only options were High floor, low floor, near lobby and so forth. Nothing about being by any trail??

That is a downside, the pool view room was located so close to laundry, Mara and the pool it was so convenient. But I’d rather do some walking to have a nice or decent view. In the kudu trail/side is there a laundry facility there as well? That would suck walking all the way to the zebra trail to do laundry
