After alot of thought and research we have decided to stay at AKL next June. We can only afford a standard room however so my question is are there any standard rooms available at AKL that do not face the parking lot and do the standard rooms have balconies? Thanks Sharon

We were at AKL standard view the first week of May. Unfortunately all the standard view rooms do face the front of the building and the parking lots but they are far enough back that you aren't right on top of them. We were first put in 3 rooms on the fifth floor and they did not have balconies. Just holes cut out of the thatched roofing. No chairs or table. We asked to be moved and they put us on the third floor on Ostrich Trail. This is opposite of the bus stop. These rooms were wonderful. Very quiet. They were in front of the handicap parking but the beautiful trees and bushes hid the cars so it was great. They were rooms 3123, 3125, and 3127. They had the full open balconies and were nice to sit out on. There are alot of public viewing areas to see the animals and be sure to walk out to Arusha Rock at night and see the animals by moonlight. It's really nice. You'll love AKL. We cannot wait to go back.

There are standard rooms with pool views, savana views, and parking lot views. You pay for the view and the type of room. Keep watching here or Mousavers.com for discount codes to come out, you may be able to get a "standard" pool view room.

mickeyfan1 is so right Sharon. Our stay at AKL was an upgrade from the PO/FQ closing and we weren't offered anything but standard view. We had counted on staying at the moderate so no one had the extra $ to pay the difference for a pool or savannah view. Next trip I definitely want a pool view. The pool there is gorgeous in my opinion. I hope some good codes come out again next year. Good luck!!

Even if you can only afford the parking lot I would stay there. There are more than enough places throughout the building to watch the animals that it's not a big deal not to have a savannah view if cost is an issue. We stayed last dec is savannah but if we return later this year I think we're going to go with parking lot view in order to save some $$$.
