AKL Standard or Pool View?

I was wondering if the upgrade to the pool view is worth the extra 100.00 we can't afford a savanah view. Codes came out and a standard view wasn't avilable and know it is. Can you see animal at all from the pool view? Is the pool view noisy at night?

I did not find the pool view noisy at night at all. Very quiet, actually. If I opened my sliding glass door during the afternoon hours I could hear people playing in the pool, but the sound wasn't unpleasant. We could see flamingoes from our room (they are near the pool) but that's it. I don't know if there are any pool view rooms which could eek out a view of a savannah if you stretched. Not sure. When we got the pool view, we'd actually booked a standard view and were upgraded. The pool view was lovely, and I think the standard views overlook the front of the resort and the parking lots, but I'm not positive. I guess it depends on how much time you will be spending in your room. The resort itself is lovely to explore and there are plenty of places for animal viewing, and a fireplace to relax by. You could actually spend a lot of time about the resort and save on the view cost, if that suited you.

Trip 1 - booked Standard view for $119. When we arrived they bumped us up to Savannah view. It was great, at the end of an offshoot of Zebra, we looked right at giraffes and others, and if we looked to right we saw the flamingos and end of pool. Was an incredible view and we so enjoyed our balcony.

Trip 2 - so afraid we would get a standard room (without having seen a view) we paid the extra for pool view, savannah not in budget. Well we got pool view with no upgrade and it was a waste of money. We saw roofs, pool, lots of people and we never used the balcony. As far as we were concerned, a total waste of money.

If we go back, I'll book standard again and take a chance on an upgrade since they seem to happen often. If we don't get it, there are so many public balconies etc to view the animals, we will use them.
