AKL restaurants not taking cash now?

DH asked this morning whether I had read any reactions to AKL not taking cash except for tips, and I haven’t. I've posted this on the AKL Resort thread too but thought that the people most affected might be those who aren’t staying there but who go to eat there and plan to pay cash. I know it just started on Feb. 12 but hopefully someone reading this board will have had some experience.

How is that “experiment” working out?

I cant even imagine that happening. Many visitors are international and dont have international CCs. They exchange their currency for dollars when they arrive. Just form reading these boards, I know many others often pay for their whole trip in cash or gift cards.

Edit: I just saw this...

Jambo House at the Resort will be the first location to accept electronic payment only for all purchases and services. Guests with resort or dining reservations during the pilot program are being advised of the change.

Valid forms of payments that will be accepted include MagicBands, credit cards, debit cards, Disney Gift Cards, Disney Rewards Redemption Cards and electronic payments methods such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay or Google Pay.

Although the resort will be cash-less during the pilot period, they will continue to accept cash for tips and guests staying at the resort can use cash to add to their room charge capabilities.

Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb.

I do not like using my debit card and some of my credit cards on vacation. I need to inform the banks I will be traveling and in a couple of instances, my card was declines until I called then and told them it was me actually making the purchase. Its a hassle and to risky to possibly be declined.

I put my Disney Visa CC on my resort/magic band and dont seem to have an issue, but my daughter uses her cash for souvenirs and if we are nearing the end of the week and still have a good amount of cash on us (for emergencies, ubers, tips etc..) we start using the cash to pay for things to get rid of it and not add to our CC.

Just knowing cash is not an option would make me nervous (even though I dont use it 99% of the time). Always have to have a plan B !!!

Where is that posted? I have a big problem with “Valid forms of payments that will be accepted include MagicBands,” since bands don’t actually pay for anything. They simply charge back to your room, and you can have a band without a room reservation. Unless Disney is adding forms of payments to bands, that line is wholly inaccurate.

I don’t like this at all. We have reservations for April and just got an email. I mostly use gift cards and Disney’s rewards but I also use some cash. I do not like to have my credit card linked to my magic band because I have been charged multiple times even though we used dining credits. They took the credits and charged my credit card.

I recall commenting about this a few weeks ago.

I do not like using my Magic Band for payments [I had an issue of theft once at Disney].

So my quick 'google search' came up with confirmation from Kenny the Pirate:

Personally, it doesn't effect me at all because I almost never carry cash anymore, ever. At the same time, it seems absurd that an establishment would not accept the currency the transactions are traded in. Can I pay with Bitcoins? SMH.

I hate this idea. I pay for just about everything in cash. It never fails, no matter how careful I am I’ve had my debit card hacked three times. Each after a trip to Disney.

Not happy about this at all

I've thought of this in the past as just a futuristic joke, and now it's actually a fact!!! What a dumb stupid move. Cash should always be the #1 form of payment. I know people that NEVER use any other form.

Don't like my cash!!! Don't need my business! (And this is coming from someone that regularly uses other forms of payment - but like to have my #1 form as cash).

Interesting. I hadn’t heard this and I do have a reservation at Jiko in the next ~45 days. It won’t affect me as I rarely use cash but this seems like pretty high probability for some uncomfortable guest interactions. I wonder what the rationale is.

My theory for the reason Disney is doing this is that it's so easy to swipe and pay, thus not knowing how much you've really spent, that guests will spend more. And that's exactly why I use cash, so that I know how much I'm really spending. Someone I know said something years ago that I've never forgotten-"I love plastic money[credit cards]. After you use it, they give it back so you can use it again over and over. With real money, they keep it and you can't spend it again."

No comments on it at AKL, but there are quite a few places I frequent in NYC that are non-cash. I work in a pretty touristy area (by World Trade Center) and a few restaurants and store have become non-cash now.

I don’t mind I almost always pay with some form of a card. I will say I always have some cash just incase for tips and such, but don’t use it often.

I hate this idea...we charge our meals but allot an amount of money for purchases each day...Had running up the charge cards and we don't use debit cards...
