AKL Refrigerator Size Question

I have developed several food allergies and will need to bring some food with me for my Oct trip to AKL. Do the refridgerators in the rooms include a small freezer portion - large enough to fit a box of dairy-free waffles and a pint of soy ice cream? Thanks!

I do not know if all the rooms have the same refrigerator or not. The refrigerator in our room was the small - dorm sized one. It did not have any freezer section. We did accidentally freeze our milk and orange juice - the setting was turned up and we placed these items in the back.

Actually, I hadn't thought about turning the setting up. That just may work - I'll have to go over my shopping list and see if I can just "freeze" everything.

would a gallon of milk fit in the AKL fridge?? or should i get two half gallons??

I think you can get a gallon if if you remove the wire shelf. This limits your options for storing other items.

IIRC, two half gallons could be stored in the door.

Some of the fridges seem to work better than others. The first time we stayed there we had no problem keeping drinks cold. The second time, nothing was getting cold. I finally realized that a sock was behind the fridge blocking the vent. It helped, but nothing got terribly cold.

We stayed at AKL in October and here is a pic of the fridge we had. I'm not sure if that is what all of the rooms had, but you could fit a gallon of milk in there...the freezer compartment was not very big though.

thanks for the picture-- wow that's small! we were there in 01 and rented one for $10 day, but it was double in height.

i wonder if that is the standard fridge that's in all the rooms?

I'm not sure on that, but somone who was there more recently might now! We were in a poolview rooom. The fridge was certatinly smaller than the one we had at CBR(same width, but like you said double in size).

I believe the resort must have several different refrigerators. We were just at AKL last week. Our refrig was the same size as the one pictured but was quite different. Our room was savanna view room if that makes any difference ???

Ours was not under the bathroom sink. It was in the bedroom area next to the armoire (sp?). Also it was enclosed in a wooden cabinet - similar to some mini-bar set ups. The coffee pot sat on top of the cabinet.

Our refrig did not have a freezer section. The door was not wide enough to hold 1/2 gallons of milk or 2 litter pop bottles. We took one shelf out and were able to hold 1 quart milk and orange juice bottles. I believe taking 2 shelves out you could fit 1/2 gallons. I am not sure if one gallon containers would fit - more a question of adequate depth rather than heigth.
