AKL Pool view question...

Where are the best pool view rooms? Giraffe Trail or Zebra Trail? Or is there no real difference?

This is the view we had from our room on Giraffe Trail, Room 4018 (we just got home this morning 3/13):

The first one is straight off of our balcony and the other is to the right. To the left of the tall trees, you see a portion of the savannah off in the distance. We saw flamingos, kudu, wildebeest, and giraffe from our room on that savannah. We also really enjoyed all of the public animal viewing areas too.

Had you requested a pool view room or were you "upgraded"?

Giraffe trail seems to be a good location. Close to the pool yet not too far from the lobby and bus access.

We were upgraded, without asking. We booked a standard view on Hotels.com. At check-in, the CM did ask us whether we wanted two queens or a queen and bunk beds, but since our kids are only 3 & 4 and not tup bunk ready yet (LOL), we chose 2 queens...wonder what room we would've gotten had we chosen the bunk room? Dh keeps joking that it probably would've been a savannah view. LOL!

We were very close to the lobby (down the hall and down a staircase next to the gift shop), pool (just around the corner to the elevator that went straight down to the pool area), and restaurants (Quick elevator ride). We were really pleased with the location.

Admittedly, though, if we ever get back there, we may try for a true savannah view next time. But, the pool view was awesome especially since we could still see animals from our room.

We will be AKL first timers this May and have booked a standard view. We really want to be close the the pool, lobby and restaurants. Hopefully, there will be some pixie dust at check-in and we, too, will get a complimentary upgrade such as this!

We also booked a standard room for May 25-27 at AKL. We are really hoping for an upgrade!

We also booked a standard room for next month. Our flight arrives at 8 a.m. and we are headed straight for the resort to increase our chances for an upgrade. We booked a savannah view last time but decided to take our chances this trip.

Be aware that the pool might be loud at night. In 2002, we had a Sav. room at the fffaaaarrrrrrr end of the resort/circle/horseshoe , whatever you wanna call it,(felt like we walked to Africa when carrying a sleeping 2-1/2 y/o) we would put our kids to bed and sit out on the balcony, we could hear the pool from our room. It didn't bother us, but we could tell that it would probably be loud.
