AKL LITE unofficial FAQ thread#10 - I believe that's known as a 'Jambo Dozen'

Hi!

We switched from WL CL to AKL CL from 2/19-2/27. We did two weeks at CBR in November, but the kids are out of school for President's week, and since it will be busy, the plan is to do some park touring, but mostly enjoy the resort.

I just got our initial email from IPO, and it felt pretty weird compared to the initial email from WL. I kind of felt like it was more of a sales pitch? I mean, we've already planned to book the sunrise safari-- that's why we changed resorts, but it was less "how can we help you?" and more "what can we sell you?"

It concerns me because we chose to do CL because we'll need assistance with things like luggage and stuff because our kids are so small and Millie has some medical issues that require toting equipment. I'm really kind of wondering if we made the right decision switching from WL.


Edit: This post seemed super whiny-- I'm sorry! We are REALLY excited about AKL... I guess my question is, we assumed that CL would be the way to go if we felt like we could have used extra assistance at CBR. Was this a bad call?

Don't fret...You made the right choice in terms of a Perfect resort....I'm not sure about CL but it has to be top notch better than just staying DVC or reg. room.

This resort is perfect for those vacations that you spend a lil less time at the parks & some at the resort....Soo much to do & see here...The only problem that I see here is, that you'll be jaded after this trip, & you'll never want to go anywhere else.. This place is the absolute best.

Bus question! When taking the Disney buses from the parks back to the hotel, does the bus always stop at Jambo AND Kidani Village? If so, which stop is usually first?

Park buses pick up and drop off at Kidani 1st; Jambo 2nd.

Downtown Disney buses pick up and drop off at Jambo 1st; Kidani 2nd.

60 days out -- online check-in s/b available to you now through MDE.

Not necessary, but I use it to have my credit card linked -- and contrary to what others have said, I have never had to physically show my card at check-in when I've done that online.

I also find it useful to show my estimated arrival time. I almost always arrive hours before official "check-in" (3pm for the resort, but 4pm for DVC). I have often arrived to hear "your room is ready!"

We will be there the same week and are hoping the same thing! I've been in February a few times. Two years ago the weather was beautiful. Four years ago it was cold and rained half our vacation We're doing bunk beds, Pool view You will LOVE savannah view!!! We got upgraded from pool view last year and I never wanted to leave my room!

I have a few questions for people who have been recently...I tried to search, but was not having much luck....Are the fridges back in yet? We were hoping to get some goodies from garden grocer, but don't want to order if we have no fridge . Also, if we bring bagels in our luggage, are there toasters we could use at the Mara? We never ate breakfast there last year, so I wasn't paying attention! Thanks so much for your help...the next three weeks are going to fly by, and soon we will be back at my favorite hotel!

Thank you both That solves a lot of our breakfast problems! We're doing the dining plan this time and wanted to keep it simple for the am...my family is a bit picky with what they eat for breakfast, except for my stepson who loves his poptarts fresh out of the box

If you stay at Jambo can you also use the pool over at Kidani? If so, can you walk or is there/should you take a shuttle? Anyone have pics of both or want to tell me about the pools?

I mentioned walking between them and my son was like "I don't think so mom since you would have to cross the Savannah and the animals may not like it" Hmm, maybe he is right!

BF and I were originally going to stay at POR but we looked into DVC points and voila we are now staying at AKV(standard studio). I still have giddy moments that we suddenly find ourselves at a deluxe!

I actually stayed for a few days way back in 2004 when I was doing the International Program but I'm an even bigger Disney nut now and know I will appreciate it even more!

After reading so very many comments I'm thinking I'll be checking off the 'closest to transportation' request when we do online check in for October. It would be nice to hope we maybe get savannah view but don't want to be stuck at the end of one of the trails.

So just want to say thank you to everyone for all their amazing insight and (continued) help!
