AKL-If I request gift basket from Disney florist are my chances of upgrade gone?

I'm splitting my stay 5/28-6/6 between POR then moved to AKL. AKL is a surprise to the kids. I got a pool view, but would love a free upgrade. It's a special family week (our anniversary, one dd's adoption day and my 2nd dd 1/2 birthday, which amazingly all fall on the same day) and I want to order something for the kids from Disney Florist to arrive at AKL. Are my chances of an upgrade gone because my room would be chosen already with the basket delivered?

I wanted the basket at AKL because I wanted it to be a surprise for the kids where we are staying (we've visited but never stayed there). And our family day actually happens while we are in AKL.
If it does ruin my chances I'll just do the basket at POR when we first arrive, Because I really don't care about an upgrade at POR.
What do you all think?

I was wondering about this also in regard to Magical Express. I was told our bags would be in our room when we arrived. I don't know if this is actually happening or not. However, if it is does that mean there is less chance of an upgrade or even just a room preference that got overlooked by the room assigner?

Our gift baskets were held at the desk until we actually checked into the room.

Most of the time, the gift baskets I deliver are held at the desk until the guests arrive. I wouldn't worry about it ruining your chances for an upgrade. If they are going to give it to you, it is probably already decided by the time you check in.

Tell AKL that it is your anniversary on your ressie. Order from the WDW Florist to arrive on your arrival day - tell them the time if you know (approx.)

We went for our 18th wedding anniversary a few years back.
Stayed at the Contemporary. The anniversary was noted on our ressie.
I ordered flowers from the WDW florist to arrive the same day we do.

When we arrive at the Contemporary - we were bumped to the Tower from the wing (no bay view - parking lot was below us- but hey, we were in the tower) and when we walked into our room, the flowers were on the table with congrat ballons and a card from the Contemporary. DW cried. It was so magical.

Magic does happen when least expected. :)

Elf, first off, congratulations on your family's upcoming events. What a magical place you have chosen to celebrate them in.

It sounds like you want a different room than the one that you booked. If that is the case, then do consider booking exactly what you want, it will assure you of the vacation of your dreams.

Have a wonderful vacation!

My family has received some lovely things from the Disney Florist. During our vacation last year, a fellow Dis'er had the following gift baskets sent to our room at the Pop Century:

My daughter loved the plush Mickey & Minnie dolls and couldn't wait to play with them. They were a wonderful touch to the food & beverage items in the baskets (truly something for everyone -- yum!).

I agree, if you ahve your heart set on a certain room type or location, book it to avoid disappointment. You are going during a very busy time, and when resorts are nearing capacity, upgrades generally don't happen.

The basket will not be placed in your room, it will be held at the desk until you arrive, so that won't matter.

And for gopack--the early reports on ME is that the luggage is not getting to the room until 2-5 hours after your arrival at your resort, so take anything you'll need that first day in your carryon.

Thanks everyone just ordered my basket from Ferelpeg. :wizard:

I don't have my heart set on anything, I was just curious. I'll be happy with any room I get. I was never one to care which room I got, been to Disney about 30 times and never had a "bad" room. Never asked for an upgrade but got one once in a while, most of the time didn't. But AKL views are special I got what I could afford (even that was stretching it that's why I split my stay), if an upgrade happens it will be great, if not, that's great too I'll be at AKL poolview.

Thanks JanetK2 for the pictures that basket looked adorable also. Decisions decisions... If only all my decisions were this much fun. ;) :flower: :earsboy: :earsgirl:
