Hello everyone,

I had read on these boards some time ago abouta culinary tour at AKL. Well, I just called today and it was confirmed. The CM said the tour is first come first serve, doesn't cost anything. It is for now, monday thru thursday at 4PM. Just meet at the Jiko podium.

We are going to be doing this during our week while there. I have been in food service for 17 years, so I'm excited to see what this about.

Blessings,
Winnie

This sounds wonderful! Do you have to call wdw-dine or wdw-tours to sign up or just literally walk up to the podium?
Thanks for the info! DH and I really want to try this!!!

The CM told me to simply arrive at the Jiko podium a little bit before 4PM.

That's it!

We did this in May-- it's basically a chat with a chef at each Boma and Jiko, along with some samples. It was fun. Make sure to ask a CM at Jiko if you don't see anything going on. When we did it we were the only two and had to flag down a CM. I don't think many people know about it, so they must not end up with attendees on some days.

I've also done it, and also there were just two of us on our tour (the funny part was that while we both came to the tour as solos, we were both married, but everyone thought we were together). We sat at the counter at Jikos and got a taste of Africa sampler plate while the chef discussed the different spices. Then we went over to Bomas, where the chef there took us on a tour and offered to let us sample whatever we saw that looked good. There was no sign up beforehand and no charge for the tour.

When we did it they also took us up to the small bar, but we only got to smell things there. In Jinko they gave us the 'taste of Africa' dips and breads, and in Boma soup and a Zebra dome!

There were lots of people doing it when we did, maybe 11 of us or so, and we had to meet by the indoor firepit/stove thing- but that was a few years ago now. No sign up and it was free.

If you have kids the cookie decorating is also fun (it was at 2pm last time we did it).

This sounds perfect for DH and me!
For those of you that have done the tour, about how long did it last?

Thanks!

How long it last depends on how long you talk to the chefs. I had a great conversation with the chef at Jiko and was the last person leaving to go over to Boma. I think it was around an hour.
