Thanks

I don't know what to tell you except that I loved it when I was there in Nov. I had a standard view room that was the first room away from the lobby. The room was great. I especially loved the fact that the room had a balcony. But since I've only stayed in value resorts before maybe other people wouldn't find that so great. There was lots of space to store things and there is an iron and ironing board in the closet. I ate at Mara and Boma and liked both of them. I had breakfast at Boma so I can't comment on lunch and dinner there. But breakfast was great. The waiter was really good about telling me about the different foods that were featured. I also had breakfast at Mara and I would say that you need to watch the server because I was looking around and when they handed me my plate it was loaded with enough food for two people. But the best thing at AKL is the animals. I spent all my time just going from one viewing area to another. I spent one day there when I didn't even go to any of the parks. There are many viewing areas so be sure to explore. I also really liked the pool and hot tubs. There is a gym there but I didn't use it. Would your driving up to the lodge the landscaping is so very African. It's easy to imagine that you've really gone somewhere else in the world.

Well all I can say is ...
the rooms were GREAT !!! Not as large as the Contemporary but big enough. We stayed in concierge on savannah side.

We were on the third floor (any higher and you see more tree tops than animals). We wanted to spend more time at our resort than at the parks. It was so relaxing AND entertaining at the same time.

If you are getting a standard rroom (parking lot view) don't bother with AKL. (Just an opinion) The whole novelty is the savannah!!! We woke early stayed in the room until mid morning and were looking for an excuse to go back to the hotel all day. We got back early and stayed either in the room or on one of the balconies (general public) to view the feeding of the animals. It's an (almost) all day show.

If you are up for new tastes be sure to make it a point to eat at Boma's at least twice. Once for breakfast and once for dinner.
YUM YUM

We stayed at AKL last March. It was our first deluxe (we ususally stay at POFQ), and I agree that the whole reason to stay is the Savannah view. Our room was on the 3rd floor and it was great
(when you enter the lobby, you are on the 3rd floor). I am an early riser, and I just loved sitting out on the balcony watching the giraffes (sp?) eat breakfast. If you don't get the savannah view, there are many public areas to view the animals - but I just loved waking up and peaking out the sliders to see what animals were outside our room! We are staying there again next month -
I can't wait.

Enjoy!

As DVC members, we don't do the non-DVC hotels very often. In the last three months, we did the concierge at both the Poly and the AKL. AKL wins for sure.

Viewing areas, art and African stuff exhibits, CMs that want to tell you all kinds of things about their native lands. Boma and Jiko, that lobby, we had a room on the top floor on the lobby. It was perfect.

We just came back from a pool view room at AKL, and it was great. We were the first room from the elevator on the 4th floor, and we just had to step out of the room to the elevator area to see the animals. The pool was very nice- though we only went in one day because of the weather, and we only ate at Mara, but the size of the room seemed comparable to WL; we had 2 double beds, a decent sized closet...we were booked for a standard view and were upgraded too.

Have fun!

Hi Dizney_Mania18,

We just came back from our third stay at the AKL and cannot say enough great things about this resort. What room view did you book? What room size? There are standard size rooms that offer standard view(read as parking lot), water view (read as pool) and savanna view. There are also deluxe rooms that offer these views. The deluxe rooms are bigger then the standard sized rooms.

If I knew what view you booked then I could give you reconmendations as to what trail and or room area to request.

I also would love to know what location to request. We are staying for 8 nights in June. We have booked a Savannah View room. We have 2 rooms reserved and would love to have bunk beds (we have 4 kids and 4 adults traveling). The only other thing that is important to us is the best location for viewing the most animals. Since we are traveling in June we are a little concerned that it may be too warm for the animals to be out much. Secondary to the bunks and a good animal viewing location I guess a room close to Mara and the Pool would be a plus. I know the chances of getting everything is slim but like I said bunk beds and good animal viewing is our top priority. Thanks for any help :D

Sorry Dizney_Mania18..didn't mean to hog your thread?? Maybe these suggestions will help you too?

We were at AKL the first week in Feb. and it is just wonderful!! :) The rooms, although not huge were beautifully decorated and very fine for the three of us. We booked a standard and were upgraded to pool view. It was a magnificent view of the whole pool area. We were also next to a set of large windows in the hallway that had views of both the savannah and the pool. That was very cool too.

Transportation was very good. We liked not having to share the buses with another resort.

Service from all cast members at AKL was just terrific also!

AKL also has some great restaurants - Boma and Jiko.

The pool is zero-entry and very large with a slide. We had warm weather the first week in Feb. so we used their pool quite a bit andd really liked the whole pool area.

There are so many places around the hotel to view the animals. It makes it very fun to walk around and find them all and to see different views of the animals. The cm's that are the animal guides are also very nice.

They also have quite a few resort activities going on throughout the day and evening at AKL.

Enjoy your stay!
