AKL and Restaurants

Ok, I keep reading about AKL closing. Are the restaurants closing too? I have an ADR for Boma and if I need to change I need to start searching!

Apparently the restaurants are open but possibly for restricted times. I have an ADR for Jiko but have not heard that the time is a problem.

I just made an ADR for Bomas on 9/12, last night. So, I assume the restaurants are open.

Our ADR is for 8/19...that is during the time I've read AKL will be closed!

Temporary Partial Closure of Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge
LAST UPDATE: 7/3/07 - MOST RECENT ADDITIONS ARE IN RED

According to a reliable source, Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge at Walt Disney World will be mostly closed to guests from July 9 until September 1, 2007. (These dates are subject to change.)

The temporary near-closure is due to disruption caused by the construction of Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas units within the main structure of the Lodge. Apparently the disruption was greater than anticipated and Disney has decided to move guests rather than inconvenience them during their stays.

Disney is calling guests who are currently booked at the Lodge in chronological order to assist them with moving to another resort. Guests have been offered rooms at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort and at various Disney Deluxe resorts for the same price they were paying at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Each case is handled differently, based on the room type booked and availability at other resorts for the dates in question.

If you booked through a travel agency, your travel agent will receive the call and will contact you with options.

It appears a few rooms will remain in use, but not many. I have been told that the following room types probably will NOT be affected: Pool View Bunkbeds, Suites (except the Vice Presidential and Presidential Suites, which reportedly will be used as a temporary Concierge Lounge) and Kilimanjaro Club (Concierge) Standard rooms. Guests staying in those room types may request a move, but the decision to move them will be handled on a case by case basis.

The restaurants are expected to remain open with regular hours

So you should still be ok.

Oh, oh-I hope it's not going to be messy, and I hope there are lots of animals around right after 9/1. I just called for ADRs at Bomas for dinner on 9/7. I was kind of surprised that there were several different times available.

We have a ressie for Boma on the 19th! DS will be so disappointed if we can't eat there--and I am sad that the whole lodge will not be open. He and DH wanted to stay there this trip.

Do people still think it will be worth the trip? We are at the BWI. We had planned to eat and tool around the AKL--you know--make a night of it.

We have ressies there in just over a week. I'm wondering the same thing! It's hard to bring family members to Disney who have never been there before. Haunted Manion=closed. Spaceship Earth=closed. AKL=closed. All of which we thought we were going to get to do. Especially HM/SE... those are must dos for first-timers as far as I'm concerned!

Anyway, if anyone hears any more about AKL and the animals, etc, would you please post and let us know?

I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THE REST WILL BE OPEN ALL SUMMER....I HAVE A BROTHER THAT WORKS THERE(bOMA) ON EVENINGS AND SAYS THEY WILL BE OPEN...MOST OF THE ROOMS ARE NOT AVAILABLE BUT THE REST. ARE

Great! We were staying there but about a month ago I got nervous about all the construction and switched to WL. Should have waited, maybe could have gotten extras! Anyway, it will be DH's first trip and I am disappointed as well about HM and SE being closed. I didn't want him to miss out on Boma too!
