I don't remember the details of our trip enough to do a lengthy report, but I wanted to mention a few things.
The AKL is absolutely beautiful. The smell in the air makes you hungry all the time. I can't say enough about the decor and the wonderful staff. The only c/o I have is that we had the same sheets on the beds for 3 nights. Is this usual practice? I knew because of a candy apple stain made by my DS.
Also, on the 5th night, I woke up at 4 am with terrible stinging on my toe. Something stung me. I turned on the lights and lifted the blankets, but couldn't find the culprit. It's still hurting now.
Our room was 3486. We did get a free upgrade w/o asking. He said we were at the end of the animal trail. I couldn't believe how perfect this spot was. It was at the end of the hall next to the pool. So we were overlooking the hot tub, the savannah, and w/in close walking to the pool. Oh, one more thing... you can hear the people urinating in the room above you at night. My DH and I were laughing so hard! We really did love the lodge!!!!!

On our first night, we went to Chef Mickeys. I didn't have a PS, but when I called she said she could work us in (just DS and myself). We waited less than 10 min. I was very excited, because I knew the popularity of this place. I'd heard rave reviews about how wonderful it is. I don't know if they were just extremely busy, but it was the worst character meal ever. The food was the worst on our whole trip. (I usually like most any foods...not picky at all.)
DS loved the ice cream bar with all the different toppings. The characters really rushed through. We only saw Donald, Chip, and Minnie at our tables. We were there for 1 1/2 hrs. We were paying with our hotel issued card, but the machine was broken. It finally did work.
On Saturday, we went to Epcot. We went on this same Sat. last year and there was nobody there. We loved it. We got there right at opening time and rode many rides without any wait!
The crowds came around lunch time, but never too packed!
By the time we were almost through the world showcase, my 6y/o DS was wanting to be carried. He held out w/o much fuss. We always went back to the resort in the afternoon for R&R, and a swim. This works wonders for our whole family.
The AKL pool was never too crowded and the lifeguards were really observant! I couldn't believe how much training the guys get. I spoke with one of the instructors and watched them practice fake accident scenarios.
On Sunday, we went to MK. Busy, but not unmanageable. We went to FL first and did the kiddie rides, the went to Splash Mt. with only a 20 min. wait. My DH took DS and he loved it.
By the time we got to toontown, there was a very large crowd.

On Monday to AK. (I think this was an EMH day). The crowds were awful! We only rode safari and triceratops spin. We left around 1pm. That night we ate at Boma's at the lodge. It was wonderful!!!!! I didn't manage to get a good case of stomach cramps and diarrhea about 30 min. later, but was fixed the next morning. My son really liked the selections they had for the kids.
The desserts were wonderful!!

I know we did Illuminations and Fantasmic at some point. They are both wonderful!!!

To BB on Wed.
They closed he rides for about 20 min. while a thunderstorm blew over. My son loves this waterpark!

Back to MK on Thurs. Much more crowded than Sunday, but not too bad.
Dole whips are wonderful.

We went to DTD on Thurs. afternoon. Forecast for Thunderstorms, but we only got a short shower. Very nice.

Hope this helps someone out there!

I forgot to add a few things.
We did eat at Jiko's one night. I guess you have to pay for what you get. It was the best meal we had the whole week, AND the most expensive. My son had the puzzle/banana split for dessert.
There were about 6 pieces of white chocolate puzzle pieces that formed a Mickey image, and a bowl of ice cream w/bananas and whip cream topped w/Mickey sprinkles.

I think the buses at AKL only go to and from this lodge, not other resorts. This is nice. The only downfall is that there was only one bus for each park. If the bus just left MK to go back to AKL, then you may be waiting a while at MK for the next bus to arrive. We did wait longer going to and from MK than any other place. We do love the bus system though!
One driver sang all the way from MK to AKL. We were all getting a kick out of her. It was about 4pm. Everyone on the bus was tired and cranky, except her. How funny!!!!!

The worst experience was watching a drunken father shaking and yelling at his hysterical 4-5y/o daughter. I put down my camera and ran over to him. I asked him if I could do anything to help her. I am totally against parents shaking their children senseless. He couldn't even talk straight. He did calm and put her down, but then started playing mind games with her. She was upset because she wanted her mother. He kept yelling, "Your mother's gone. She doesn't want to come back.... and on and on and on." The little girl was in total hysterics. Her mom did finally show up about 10 minutes later. She really let the father have it. He literally could barely stand up on his own. There was a huge crowd of people watching. I hope she didn't have to suffer any further. They left just before the Illuminations show began.

Thanks for the review! I stayed at AKL for the first time in December, and I absolutely loved it! The atmosphere is incredible, and the animals are amzing to watch from the balcony.

I know that the hotels do not change the sheets daily. It is sort of along the lines of "hang up your towels, if you will be re-using them, so we can conserve water and energy." I think most hotels only change the sheets every 3-4 days. If there was an obvious stain, they should have changed them, though, even if it was not the scheduled day to change the sheets. Must have been an oversight.

Good for you for approaching the drunk who was being abusive to his child! I know a lot of people would have tried to ignore it. There is a risk when trying to intervene, and your actions are admirable.

Glad you enjoyed your trip!

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't care for Chef Mickey's. I know its beloved by many, but I just don't see the appeal. My kids didn't like it much either and ate very little.

We will be going the exact same week next year and I appreciate your commenting on the crowd levels and manageability.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at the AKL. We really lovce it there but have never toured the parks while staying there.

I have to agree with you about Chef Mickeys, we quit going there a few years ago when we felt the character interaction was poor and the food had just gotten plain awful.

You might want to have your toe checked out. A friend of mine stayed in a hotel last year (not Disney), and something stung her in the bed. By the time she got home it was a large spot and hurt pretty bad. Turns out it was a brown recluse spider bite. The doctor said it is common for them to hide under sheets. I hope it gets better!!

Thanks for sharing - wonderful reviews!!!!
