Hi all! We're new DVC owners (for 2 weeks now):cool1:

Looking at booking in June 2011 for a 2 bedroom at AKL. What is the difference of value vs. standard? We're thinking of a spit stay with 3 nights in the "cheaper" category over the weekend we arrive and then moving over to Savannah View for the remainder of the vacation.

Thanks!

Value's are only in Jambo house and can be hard to book to the limited number of them. The rooms themselves are 3' shorter in all rooms and have no chair sleeper (limiting the capacity of the roolm). As the rooms are in Jambo house they also only have two bathrooms in the two-bedroom instead of the three in Kidani Village.

Hello,

Here is my take:

Value rooms will ALWAYS be at Jambo house... but IMO, I like Jambo house better than Kidani for the fact that the resort has more amenities...Quick service, more restaurants, activities, etc.

So, if you want and/or are willing to stay at Jambo instead of Kidani, then the value rooms are an EXCELLENT value.

What defines a value room is that it is physically 3 feet shorter than a normal sized room. A value room has a 45% chance of being a pool view, a 45% chance of being a savannah view and a 10% chance of being a parking lot view.

I took a trip in december to AKL Jambo house and stayed in both a value sized room and a normal sized room. I honestly don't feel like the extra space in a normal rooms adds anything to the room. The only issue I had with space in the value room was that there wasn't any place to put a suitcase in the master bedroom, but I always put the suitcases by the studio/1-bedroom connecting door anyway. The extra chair in the bedroom on the normal room won't ever be missed. Other than that, the extra space just seems to spread stuff out a bit. The room doesn't feel any larger, nor did the value room feel cramped.

If I were you, what I would do is just book the entire trip as a value room. You may luck out and get a savannah view anyway and you'll save a TON of points. If you don't get a savannah view, then there are TONS of places all over the resort for viewing the animals. In my opinion, the missing space won't even be noticed.

Totally agree. If you have the chance to get a value I'd take it. That way you'll actually get a "feel" for the value rooms and help you decide on them for future trips. Best point deal in the system IMHO.

I am assuming you meant 2012 and not 2011, since that is past. If you are booking now, I'd say you can book either category fairly easily. Whether value or standard is your best choice depends a bit on your circumstances. If you have a need to use the living room as a bedroom, I'd stay away from the value. Even the regular rooms at Jambo feel small to me, and the smaller value rooms are way too tight for more than 2 people. If you are just 2 people, it wouldn't make a lot of difference, and in that case, I'd probably book the value 1 bedroom just for the chance that you might get a savanna view room.
