I found these pictures of the Akershus buffet. Is this what they'll be serving now that it's changed back to the original menu? Just trying to figure out what we're going to be eating!
Thanks!

Thanks for the pictures. I know that if worst comes to worst I can always enjoy a salad...lol

The girls will be all about the Princesses anyway.

Hi triplefigs! :wave2: remember me?

Thanks for the link. I will be doing the Princess Lunch in Oct. I ate at Akershus in Nov 2004 and loved it. I am hoping it will be similar!

Can't forget your beautiful DD on the dock in her gown! Please report back after your trip. We're going in Nov/Dec, and I can't wait to hear how it is. We're going because of the Princesses, and if the food doesn't suit us we'll just grab a CS afterwards. I hope you have a great trip!

The stinky brown cheese and that rolled spongey bread is still there. However some of the other choices look better then what is currently there, and when we asked for more they really acted like you were putting them out. That is the 1st time I ever left a Disney "all you can eat" place hungry. (May 2005) The princess were nice, but so not worth the price.

You would think a chicken salad would be safe right? No way. It was the smallest tough, over cooked one chicken breast on a small scoup of cole slaw. I had to take a picture to prove how small it was. Lets see if I still remember how to post pictures.

Really I think Norway is the wrost meal at all of WDW and I don't normally complain about WDW anything. I would not pay it again for all the princess in the world. Next time I make the effort for CRT or nothing at all. (or maybe 1900 park fare, that is good food.)

Sorry to be a downer. Can you belive the price on that link? Only 13.99? That isn't to bad, it must of been lunch. Maybe that is why when we went in 2000 I don't remember hating it.

awww...thanks! You DO remember! :teeth:

I promise to report back to ya. When DH and I ate there in Nov 2004 we LOVED it...but we are very adveturous with food. DD was very well behaved that night, but of course she was a bit bored. Now, we feel we will have the best of both worlds...the princesses to entertain our DD, and the awesome food to entertain US!

Thanks for the great pictures. Last time we went they didnt have the Viking longboat chocolate dessert with mango coulis, which the kids pronounced yummy. I hope they bring it back. However for me it isnt enough to bring back the buffet. It will have to be character free and the calm tranquil setting it once was.

Mmm that made me hungry and also sad that it hasn't gone back to how it was ie before the Princesses arrived :( Would also love the hot buffet back.

I so agree with this statement! Akershus was always a favorite of ours. It was kind of our comfort food spot. Once they changed to the order motiff, we quit eating there. Then they went to to character dining, and we knew we would never be back. I hope they bring back the old Akershus soon.

I'd settle for the cold buffet and table service hot foods, but prefer the hot buffet..I just would like a meal without the pricesses. Surely they could do lunch or dinner princess free, or have a no-princess seating area without the princess price.

That was one of the great things about Akershus. The lunch was $14, all you can eat and it was interesting inside. The food was great on the cold buffet and the hot buffet was fine though I did think the variety and quality of the hot food was better when we had to choose it off the menu. But taking away the buffet and lowering the variety, adding princessed and $10 made it so I wouldn't go back. This new change sounds fine except for the price. For $14 I could put up with the princesses and noise. :) But the price is too high.

Well, since I have a 5 yr old princess-loving DD and an Estonian grandfather, I fall into the category of loving everything about Akershus again. Give me smoked and picked fish with princesses any time!

I am definately with DianeSchlicht on the Norwegian comfort food thing. I just love the mashed Rutabaga there. I also go for the "stinky brown cheese" which I believe is called Gjetost (short for Gudbrandsdalsost, which is equally unpronouncable). DD loves pickled herring (and anchovies for that matter) so taking her a place where she can get that, and princesses is a big hit. The breakfast menu is a bit tame, standard theme park food, tho a bit better quality than CRT in my experience.

Triplefigs,

Thanks so much for posting the pictures. We have a ADR for October 14th and I hope this is the menu they have gone back to. I was worried before but now I have a better comfort level.

Sold in the USA under the Ski Queen label. Described as follows:

Made from a combination of goat's- and cow's-milk whey, this Norwegian cheese is faintly sweet and caramel colored. The texture can range from semi firm like fudge to the consistency of stiff peanut butter. The brown color and sweetness result from slowly cooking the milk until its sugars caramelize. Gjetost is particularly good spread on dark bread.

Triplefigs, thanks for the reminder of the glory of the buffet! Try the Venison goulash if they have that again!

This isn't the BREAKFAST, is it? What is the breakfast like?

They have Gjetost and Lefse, hooray!

That chicken breast looked good, too.

Jan, my DD is a little over 13 months old. Her brithday is Aug 3rd 2004 so they are very close togehter. She seems much younger then other babies her age since she isn't walking, but scoots around and is under 17 lbs. However she is very smart and verbal, so that suprizes people. :goodvibes

I bet you are having fun with your gbaby. It is a fun age.
