Akershus breakfast - will kids eat it?

I made an ADR for Akershus for 8am our first official day. Given that we want to start with Epcot it seemed to make the most sense. Several years ago we ate there for lunch and while my kids loved the experience, my husband hated it because of the food. I have 4 girls so I think this would be great for them but I'm wondering about the menu. Norwegian with an American twist...what does that mean?? Will they have the Mickey waffles or is it just eggs, bacon sausage and fruit? Half my crew is fairly picky. While I know they will like the Princesses, if they don't eat it will cause issues later in the day (crankiness!).
My other option is Chef Mickey but it means traveling from the POP so we either have to go to MK and walk or transfer buses at Downtown Dis. And if we want to go to Epcot after, I'm not sure whether its a hassle - how far is Contemporary from Epcot, my memory escapes me. Its monrail right to Epcot, right???
Edited to add that Chef Mickey only has a 7am that day, I don't think I can get us all out the door to make a 7 so I think I am stuck!

I don't know - I asked a question yesterday about Akershus -whether we should do breakfast or lunch. The majority of people who responded said to do breakfast and that the food was really good. I was under the impression that they have eggs, bacon, some kind of potato-cheese thing, muffins, rolls, pastries, and fruit. I've never gone, but I hope this helped a little. We're going to try it!

We took DD there when she was almost 4 and she ate the fruit, muffins and cinnamon rolls off the cold buffet. She's not an egg eater so I knew going into it she wouldn't eat the hot items. She loves waffles and pancakes but they didn't have those.

Well, I cancelled it and booked Hollywood and Vine. We will have to Hollywood Studios are first day instead of Epcot. Would have been nice to do Epcot in the AM as my husband really wants to ride Soarin and not wait 2 hours ;) We will just have to chance it for the following night.

We went last July to Akershus for breakfast and we did not like the food at all. The Princess interaction and picture with Belle was great but the food was not very good. There is a cold buffet to walk through which we found very little to enjoy and then they brought to our table bacon, eggs, sausage, and cheesy potatoes. No waffles or pancakes on buffet. We have eaten breakfast buffets at Crystal Palace (our favorite) and Chef Mickeys and we enjoyed both very much. We will not be returning to Akershus. Hope this helps.

Both of my girls are very picky when it comes to breakfast...its either cereal or pop tarts for them, or forget it :sad2:. With that said, they LOVE Akershus breakfast. At the cold bar they have pastries, fruit, cheeses, lox (kids not a big fan of that), yogurt with toppings, bagels with cream cheese, and other cold items. Then they bring out a platter of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and cheesy potato casserole (the best thing ever ). My kids won't touch the eggs but they eat everything else that is offered (except the lox). Definitely keep your ADR there, especially if you plan on going to Epcot afterwards. You have the best time to go as well, because there are hardly anyone in the park and you will be able to get great pictures of Spaceship Earth and WS that early in the morning (very pretty then). It is a family tradition for us to have before the park opens ADRs there for our first full day at Disney. Enjoy!!!!! :goodvibes

We loved Akershus breakfast! Scrambled eggs, cheesy hash brown casserole, bacon, sweet rolls, fruit and the cold bar. It seemed very "American" to me with the exception of a couple of Norweigan specialties on the bar.

yep, what PPs said. Were there just last week. First you have the buffet which is fruit, muffins, yogurt, rolls, cheese, etc. Then they bring out a skillet of scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns (all delicious). There was more stuff on the buffet that I didn't really pay attention to. Maybe some salmon and some other cold meats?

Akershus has GREAT food! There is a nice potato cassarole (think the chedder hashbrowns at Cracker Barrel but creamer), scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon and then there is the cold/pastery buffet with fruit, bagels, cinnimon rolls, biscuts, pastries galore and some local fare from Norway (thin sliced Lox). It's really quite good and even my picky eatters enjoyed themselves.

I didn't realize that this was a limited breakfast menu. We may have to reconsider especially since it's just hubby and I, so no little girls in need of seeing the Princesses.

I have had dinner and breakfast at Akershus. I will probably not eat dinner there again.

Having said that, breakfast was a-flippin-mazing! Food was delish, lots to choose from, and early entry to Epcot.

Have fun!

Not my favorite breakfast, but I find it better than CRT.

I'll be going back again this year.

We had a great breakfast at H&V last month! There were tasty items on the buffet. My DGS (2 1/2) didn't have any trouble finding something to eat. And the character interaction was very good.

Breakfast food is breakfast food. Its pretty much the same at every character meal, except for Tusker House which had different options than anywhere else. The sausage at Ohana is way better than any other place, but other than that its pretty much all standard.

We went in December last year and I asked our waitress for Mickey waffles and she brought them out with syrup and butter! I thought the buffet was delicious and interesting, my husband liked the standard eggs and sausage, but having the waffles was definitely a good thing for my girls.

Our children did fine at Akershus. My older daughter is an extremely picky eater and enjoyed a waffle and fruit and ate some bacon. My younger daughter liked the eggs and potatoes and ate a bunch of strawberries.

At any character meal, the challenge for us is to get the kids to eat at all - they're really more interested in other things. I didn't find Akershus any more difficult to work with than other character meals.
