I saw a thread on the restaurant board about the Norwegian buffet no longer a part of the Akershus Breakfast, there isn't much discussion about why and/or if permanent. I am curious, so I thought I'd pop over here to see if anyone knew anything about it.

I haven't heard anything about any changes to Akershus.

People on the restaurant board are reporting that they have removed the buffet portion of at least breakfast, they are now bringing a meat and cheese board, fruit, yogurt, and pastries to each table.

Just more dumbing down of Norway. Sad but not a surprise because I believe that Disney wants to gradually get rid of any sign of Norway.

If that's the case, I need to change my breakfast reservation. I was looking forward to a Norwegian buffet. :(

Didn't they get rid of the lunch/dinner buffet a while ago?
When I ate there in May for lunch it was a combo of both buffet and plated meal. The appetizers were at a buffet, and then they brought out a plated entree.

I was the one who started the post on the oher board. We ate breakfast there last week and our waitress told us that it changed 3 days prior. You could ask for more food, but they brought a meat/cheese /fish tray, pastry basket, bowl of yogurt, bowl of fruit and plate with bacon/sausage/eggs/potatoes. I am headed to EPCOT again tomorrow and will try to get a picture of the posted menu and see it it had been updated.

The brown sweet Norwegian cheese (not sure what it's called) is my favorite part. I hope that is still offered!

Ate there last week, and the caramel cheese was included in the meat/fish/cheese board. I was looking forward to the buffet at breakfast, and was surprised it wasn't there as well.

Not that I'm aware of. When I was booking reservations for January not too long ago akershus was listed as a buffet.
It used to be a full buffet. I think it's part buffet and part table service now. If you look on MDE it has a menu.

Disclosure: I never ate there.

But this sounds like it could be an actual improvement, going from Buffet to Family style. If they are offering the same foods but now delivering them to your table why would that be a bad thing? Or have the food offerings been reduced?

There's definitely less offered than there was on the original buffet.

I know this is specifically about the breakfast but I hate to start another thread just to ask about lunch/dinner. I'd sure love to know if/how those also changed! We currently have a lunch scheduled in September and I just need to know what to expect.

The Norwegian buffet is very traditional and this used to be a decent representation of Norwegian foods. There has been less and less of it over time and now apparently just a few items survive.

Was there a lot of fish? If so that would explain my never eating there.

My wife the Herring umpteen different ways. That was a long time ago.

Back before Akershus was a princess meal it was a really good restaurant with good traditional Norwegan food. It was part buffet (or koldtbord as they called it) and that had cold offerings like smoked fish and lunch meats. Then there were about 8 hot offerings that were plated and brought to you. You could order as many of those offerings as you'd like and the price was fixed.

One of the best meals I've had at Disney was there back in 2004 but I can't say that any longer. I had one meal there since the change and can't really remember what it was like other then it was not nearly as good.
