AK transportation

I know AK lodge is pretty far from the parks. What is the ride time like?

I also heard from someone this morning about having to wait a long time at AK lodge to catch buses. (She said up to 40 minutes). I don't know when they were there, but wondering if this is a common occurence. (We would be going in september)

We've always stayed in POFQ, but through another site, we may have found a good deal at AK, so wanted to check it out.

AKL is itself basically a park.

It's a short hop to AK, and about 20 minutes to MK. Epcot and HS are in between. They're no worse than you would find at PO for time to park. Bus wait times can vary at any resort and everyone occasionally gets unlucky.

AKL does not share with any other resorts (except Jambo & Kidani, both at AKL). Once those stops are loaded, your ride time is 15-20 minutes. It is my own personal belief that Disney wants all visitors - except monorail visitors - to spend a max time of 20 minutes on their buses. Hence the reason many resorts in close proximity share with each other -- after you pick up at two or three resorts, even if you're closer mileage-wise, your ride time is still going to average out to 15-20 minutes. Some adjustment for if your resort is closer to a particular park (ie AKL is 5 mins from AK).

We only ever waited any length of time once at AKL heading to MK. It was pre-rd hours and a bus just never came, though buses came for other parks. A cast member was there with us and radioing to dispatch. Once that happened it was minutes before a bus arrived and we were on our way. I have never waited any longer to return to AKL from a park than any other resort.

You are going to LOVE AKL. I'm sort of glad that so many people poo-poo it because of it's distance... if they figure out it's the same ride time as they're getting at, say, CBR or even WL, they'll start to overrun our favorite place
