AK Lunch - Tusker House or Yak and Yeti?

We have been to Disney many, many times, but have never eaten TS at AK before.

I have a ressie at Tusker House for lunch, but am thinking maybe we shouldn't miss Yak and Yeti?? We love Boma, and won't be going there this trip, so I thought Tusker House would be good to try, but now I'm second guessing myself. So which would you choose, assuming you could only do one, and had never done either before?

We do the Yak & Yeti each trip.
I love the Fried Green Beans app, & DH loves the Kobe Burger. (And the Fried Wontons are yummy!!)
We have done TH for breakfast but not lunch/dinner. We are thinking we will try it this trip since we had to do some changes to our plans and lost our Y&Y ADR...

tusker is good for any meal breakfast is characters not fond of yak & yeti:surfweb:

Thanks for the responses! Hmmmm 2 for Y&Y, 1 for TH.....

Let me add that we are talking about lunch only - not breakfast or dinner. And we are "foodies' - we love food, esp ethnic.

I really want to try the TH buffet, but Y&Y seems to be calling my name too.... those lettuce cups look fab among many other things.

Anyone who's eaten at both want to weigh in on how they compare??

Because AK closes so early, there is no distinction of 'lunch' versus 'dinner' at Tusker or at Y&Y; each place only has 1 menu.

I would vote for Y&Y but it may not be fair because we have not eaten at Tusker for lunch; the menu there simply did not appeal to me (although I love Boma). I can only say that we got really, really good food at Y&Y this year. I think they have more menu selections than just about any other WDW TS restaurant.

And the Fried Wonton dessert sounds a bit....odd....but tastes wonderful!

we have only tried yack and yeti but we love it. fried green beans are yummy and the ribs r great the fried wontons are to die for!

We really enjoyed both. I'm actually having the same debate for our AK day this trip... Right now I have Tusker House with the Nemo seating but we also have a buffet planned for dinner that night (Chef Mickey) so I'm debating changing lunch to Yak & Yeti.

The food at Tusker House is definitely more unusual than Yak & Yeti, which is your basic/familiar Americanized Chinese ala PF Changs, but it is a buffet so quality/freshness can be hit or miss depending on whether you're getting the last serving from a tray that's been out a while or the first serving from a fresh one. Both restaurants are pretty loud depending on where you're seated; for us Yak & Yeti was uncomfortably so but we were seated in a high traffic area in the middle of the main room. A better table location would have been a different experience.

I'd rate them pretty close to even on overall quality - we had some wonderful dishes at Yak & Yeti (lettuce cups, wonton dessert) and some that weren't so good (soggy tempura shrimp). And at Tusker House we did notice a quality difference between the same item when first brought out and the same item by the time we went back for seconds (particularly with the samosas, which lost their crispness after sitting a while on the buffet). Neither were a perfect meal but both were enjoyable overall.

So I think you can see where my difficulty comes in - neither restaurant stands out as measurably better or worse than the other based on our experiences, so it is terribly difficult to choose between them. I think we're going to end up switching to Yak & Yeti simply because I prefer being waited on over buffet service.

We usually do Tusker House lunch. This time dh insisted on trying something new so we are doing Y and Y in December.

TH lunch has 2 carved meats, one is usually pork I think and maybe beef. The gravy is good for the beef. There are different chutneys to try. I like the samosas. They have 1 soup, usually something with beans in it. Never changes.

People call TH Boma light. The dishes do have spice to them.

The desserts are good. I love the bread pudding and this little chocolate cup thing.

You can be seated in different rooms off of the main buffet area so it could be a hike to the food.

I honestly dont think my dh is going to like Y and Y. He travels to China once a month and eats authentic food there and he also loves Indian and curry based foods too. I only like bland food, so we shall see.

Yak and Yett is sit down, right? Could you go in just to get the wonton dessert? Or could you get it to go? I want to try that but I dont really want anything else lol

We took a group of 6 to TH and everyone found something that they really liked. They loved being able to try a little bit of everything. We always eat at TH when in AK. Y&Y has no appeal for us.

yak & yeti!!!! tusker house, i didn't care for all that couscous and indian food!! we love yak & yeti, steak skirt/shrimp, and fried wontons dessert!!! we've been here many times and ask to sit upstairs!!

We have only been to TH and we really like it. This time we are going with Yak and Yeti after reading many good reviews and for something different.

Thank you everyone for the replies. I am starting to lean toward Yak and Yeti, only because I looked up the menu at TH and while it looks good, it looks super starchy, and I'm not really interested in that (lots of rice dishes, hummus, etc.). Maybe I'm not getting the full picture of the menu though, but those lettuce cups from Yak and Yeti are just calling my name for some reason!! :D

Now I'm just having trouble getting a reservation for Yak and Yeti for that day! Waaahhhh....

OP, when is your trip? A PP also asked about Y&Y as a TS. There is also a counter service option. I enjoyed that when I did it, so this year we are going to do the TS version.

Another vote for Yak & Yeti here. Ask to sit upstairs. It's a much quieter experience than the hustle and bustle downstairs.

Our trip is in October. We want to do TS although I suppose we could do CS, but then I might as well keep our TH lunch reservations. I would rather do TS and get all the things I'm dreaming about :)

I've only been to Tusker House for breakfast and YY for 'lunner' (late lunch/early dinner); personally, DH and I were not that impressed with YY. the food didn't stand out like TH did.

When we were making our ADRs for our January trip, DH wanted to do TH again but said no to YY; instead we're going to try a new place, Jiko.

Just be patient. Tusker House lunch hasn't been loading in the ADR system at the same time as the rest so at 180 out Yak & Yeti was showing as the only DDP-eligible TS in Animal Kingdom. I've talked to two people just this week who didn't realize TH lunches had been added for fall. As people realize the Tusker House lunch times are now available some will switch and times will open up at Yak & Yeti.
