I recently booked an AirTran flight through SW. I paid to select my seat as I have a child with me and I want to make sure we sit together. Now it appears as though I need to change my flight. This new flight would be a SW flight. Can I use the money I spent tot get the other assigned seats to pay for the early boarding or am I just out the $.

By early boarding, so you mean EBCI? EBCI is not early boarding.

Keep in mind that unless you paid for a nonrefundable ticket, you will be charged $150 by Airtran for each ticket you change. They do not have Southwest's generous change ticket policy. I don't know if Airtran refunds a seat assignment payment if you cancel your flight.

You might want to just stick with your original tickets.

You are charged $150 if you book through SW? I just did a "dummy booking" on SW and picked 2 AirTran flights. It said no change fee, difference in fare applies.

Sorry, I missed the original booking was through Southwest. If booked through them, their ticket change rules should apply.

Update: I had originally booked through SW so I was able to make the changes to the flight without additional penalties. In regards to the paid seat assignment portion, I spoke with customer service and was told the following: If you choose another air tran flight then they will allow you to pick seats on the new flight. If you choose a SW flight then they automatically refund the cost for seat assignment to your credit card.
