We flew Airtran recently for the first time and had a great experience. We have flown on three vacations this year out of three different airports (Louisville, Cincinnati, Lexington) and Airtran is the only trip we had where a flight was not canceled and we did not lose an additional day of vacation. After our Delta flight was canceled last month at MCO, my husband declared we would be buying a new car and driving everywhere. After our experience with Airtran we are now going to fly with them to MCO! Thank you for saving me at least one vacation from riding with a toddler for a long trip!

So glad to hear this! We fly out of Lexington w/Airtran (first time on both counts) on Wednesday.:thumbsup2

Any tips or suggestions? Can you recommend a nice place to eat before our flight inside the airport?

From what I remember, there's only one place that serves food in the airport and that's after you go through seccurity and head upstairs. The good thing is Lexington isn't that big an airport, and free WI-FI!

We ate at DeShas after security. It was fine, limited menu though.

It doesn't have to be anything exceptional - I just want to make sure its edible!;) We don't want to eat a huge meal either as we will be saving our appetite for 'Ohana! :goodvibes

It would just be so convenient to grab a bite there, rather than making another stop on the way to the airport. Is it worth it?

Thanks for posting your positive experience. I flew AirTran for the first time last weekend. I was so concerned with all the negative reviews. However, I too had a fabulous flight! Can't wait to fly them again in 2 weeks! BTW, I flew from BOS.

I just flew Allegiant from Lex to MCO and was allowed to check my carry on bag for free, does Airtran do the same thing?

Thanks!

Was it a carry on bag that didn't fit? With AirTran, you are allowed one carryon item along iwth 1 personal item that fits under the seat free of charge. If, due to space constraints, your carry on does not fit (but adheres to the size guidelines) then they will gate check it for free.

Hope that answers your question.

THanks! It would not fit under a seat (I don't think). It's the smallest size of luggage 14 x 22 x 9 I think.

Thanks for the help.

It should be fine then. You can take that plus one more thing that fits under the seat. If you go on their website they list the dimensions allowed. I will say that they did take a tape measure out and measure my checked bag (not carry on).

Air Tran seems to have larger overhead compartments than Allegiant. I have flown both and on Allegiant they generally ask for volunteers to check their carry on. I flew Air Tran on Monday and was one of the last on the plane and still had a place for my bag.

There is a Quizno's right before security if you want a quick bite.
The usual fast food joints are about 2 miles closer to Lexington on Versailles Rd if you want something close, but not right at the airport.
