My DH and I will be traveling air tran on Sept 22, I contacted Airtran and have seating assignments (My DH has a fixed Rt. leg and needs to have a seat in the bulkhead). My ? is, Currently they have me sitting behind him. I guess this wouldn't be a problem for most people, but, this will be our very first flight ever! Sence most people pick there seat 24 hours before the flight, can I try to change my seat to the bulkhead if its avaliable? :confused3

when you contacted AIRTRAN did you ask about having a diff. seat for your DH. If you already have seat assigned they will most likely try to help you out. I wouldn't wait to try at 24 hrs, I would call direct tell them the problem and ask if he can preboard.

The problem is that on most airlines those seats are held for frequent flyers. I assume they gave one to your DH due to his leg, but there may not be any others open. (You appear to have a ticket that allows you seat assignments in advance)

The 24 hour thing has a few loopholes. One of them is AirTran's business flyer program. If your company has a contract with AirTran they can "prebook" seats ahead of the 24 hour limit.

Have you called and asked for a seat next to him? If you have and they can't do it, I would try to change at 24 hours and if that doesn't work, just arrive early.

Usually the bulkhead row is held back to be assigned at the airport on the day of travel. Or as CarolA mentioned frequent flyers may get first choice on those seats.

Call Airtran and explain your dilemma and that he needs a certain row because of his leg. I just did this at the end of June because my DH has a herniated disc and needs to keep at least his left leg out stretched for comfort while he sits. Without any hesitation the customer service rep placed him and me in row 10, the first row of coach, on the right side so that his left leg would be able to be in the aisle. That row had the most leg room, was very comfortable, and made it possible for him to travel w/o pain. Because of a "disability", at least Airtran will place you and a travel companion in that row if it is not already full. Good luck!

No need to panic if you can't sit together, especially if you are the seat directly behind your husband and it's a short flight from MD to Orlando. At least he will be assured he won't have a small child kicking his seat the whole trip, :)
