Airtran/Atlanta LAyover Question

We are wanting to catch the earliest Airtran flight when heading to WDW in July. There are 2 flight options leaving at 5:45. Both options use the same flight for the first leg. The first option has a 48 minute layover in Atlanta and lands in Orlando before 11:00. The second option has a layover of almost 2&1/2 hours in Atlanta and lands in Orlando just after noon. We would really like to get to Orlando as early as possible. My question is: Is a 48 minute layover enough??? We will have our 8 year old and 11 year old with us. We will be transferring from Airtran's regional jet to a larger jet in Atlanta. I'm not so sure if the Airtran regional jets use the same area of the airport as the large jets. Any suggestions???

I would book the 45 minute layover. I am pretty sure all of AirTran's flights come in to the same terminal so it's not a huge hall. Just go directly to your second flight. Do not stop for bathrooms, food etc until you get there and see what is going on.

I have been watching the layovers pretty closely the last few weeks as I am going to try to book the last flight our of MSP, which connects in Atlanta giving us only 40 minutes between flights. Nearly all of the flights are in and out of terminal C at Atlanta airport. I have seen a few out of D, but I would guess that you can get there fairly quickly on the train as it is only one building over.

Take the quick connection.... if anything, you can be placed on that later flight if you for some reason got in late with your connecting flight...

Duckster be sure to log into AirTran 24hrs before your departure and pick your seats and print your boarding passes. You will be able to do both legs 24hrs before your home airport departure time. This will save you 15 or 20 minutes in Atlanta.

We have done the exact same flights your are considering. The gates are only a few hundred feet apart. There are very few delays getting out of bmi, so you should get to atlanta on time or even early. Shouldn't have any problem at all, but do pick your seats 24 hours in advance.

Thanks! Great to hear from someone who has taken the same fight first hand. We are flying out of BMI. I think we will go for the earlier flight!
