Airtran and cheaper flights

If Airtran has a sale and I have already purchased tickets at a higher price, will they give me credit for the difference? Sort of like what Southwest does? When you find a lower fare through them they give you a credit to use at a later date.

I booked my AirTran tix thru WDTC, and when AirTran came out with a big sale a few days later I called WDTC right away and asked the same question. From what I understand, ANY change comes with a $50 fee per ticket. That I'm sure of. There may be other restrictions, as well.

The only reason I jumped at the airfare when I did was that as I was on the phone with WDTC less than one day earlier reserving US Airways flights (which I reserved but didn't buy within the 24 hour window). Anyway, WHILE I WAS ON THE PHONE, but apparently JUST AFTER my ressie went through, the airfare on the US Airways website went up about $130 PER TICKET! When I saw the cheaper fare on AirTran (before their sale), I jumped at it because I was scared that the flights were selling out (when the prices go up it usually means the flight is filling up). UUUGGGHHH! Now I'm stuck with $270 r/t PHL-MCO during Jersey week, which is cheaper than the $321 for US Airways I had reserved, but still, I'm SOOOO annoyed that the AirTran flights went on sale a few days later and I can't take advantage of it.

The line I got from Airtran was 'We don't expect you to pay more when the price increases so we don't refund when the price drops." In other words, no.

I was told by an Airtran agent that as a courtesy they may give you an Airtran credit toward a future flight if you just bought the ticket within the last few days and then the price drops. It may depend on who you talk to. If you aren't satisified with an answer, call back and talk to someone else. I was able to get a credit. First was told no way. Second call the lady said sure, no problem.

I have found that to be very true with Airtran also. I just booked 4 free flights with vouchers for Christmas Day and then returning on Jan. 4 (also flying free with vouchers). The first person we talked to said Christmas Day was a black out day for flying free. We said that couldn't be correct as we had called several times earlier about that and were told black out dates started on Dec. 26. So we were persistent with that agent saying we were certain it was not a black out date. She checked again and found we were correct.

Then, the only direct flight that had that day only had 2 available seats for people using free vouchers (or so she said). After asking several times (same agent), we were suddenly able to get all 4 of us booked free on that direct flight So, it really does pay to be persistent at Airtran.

We have had several other experiences of customer service agents "bending" the rules for us. My best advice is be sweet, be persistent and be thankful when they do help you get what you want. Good luck!
