For those who are planning a trip after Aug. 20, go check out their fares! You can get return for $73(US). I plugged in some dates and Labour day weekend is included in the return! Too bad I already bought SW last week!

I wish they had Nov and Dec released allready. The wife and I are flying down by ourselves and leaving the 4 kids home for Dec it is funny even though it is the 2 of us going we still have the strongest urge to drive down LOL.

hmmmm....just checked my October dates out of Buffalo, they are 89 each way plus taxes = 206 approx. I will wait for Southwest, or hope Air Tran drops a little.

I just got Aug 22nd for $27pp - after all taxes, it came to $149US for 4 people one way. :cool1: I've only ever flown out of Detroit once before, and it was on an organized tour so didn't have to worry about getting to/from the airport, Park'n'Fly's etc. I'll be coming to my experts here closer to my date for all of that advice. ;)

That's a good deal. The best we have gotten out of Detroit is $35.50 each way, with Spirit Air for our upcoming May trip. Spirit has been very aggressive lately with fares as low as .05 eacy way. Just never seem to be able to go during the dates offered.

I've always checked AirTran but never been able to find a good deal. Plus, they only fly one direct DTW-MCO per day at 4 in the afternoon. That may change as they start to fill their plane. They added the direct flight this last October, so it's still new.

They've added another non-stop flight ... leaves DTW at 11:44AM. :goodvibes I don't know if this is every day, but I got this flight on a Wednesday. Works great for us because we live in London, so we won't have to go down the night before.

Now I just need a good return flight. ;)

Hey neighbour! Thanks for the info. I always love choices. We did fly AirTran a couple of times out of Detroit and they were very good. In my previous post I mentioned that they had just added direct flights from DTW. That is incorrect. I was thinking of Southwest which now has a daily non-stop flight.

We have used the 11:44 flight (I think they also have a 4:something flight) and they have an early return flight out of MCO too.

We like Spirit's 8:00am to MCO because it gets us there for lunch. But, if I can save $40.00 or more on a one-way, I can sacrifice eating lunch in Detroit before we leave.

Was this only a one day sale? I have been checking daily with Airtran and I get e-mails from then but I have not seen anything under $89 each way. I'm looking at Aug 25 to Sep 01 from Detroit.

Wow! Another neighbour :) . I have much better luck with Spirit Air than I do with AirTran (most times). I find that AirTran is more of a last minute deal airline. Like you, the best deals I can find are $89.00.

You have to keep watching. Spirit can have some good, unadvertised fares. I booked May 1 to 16 for $39.50 each way on Spirit back in December. That's 6months in advance. Right now, the fare for those dates is $89.00. But you can bet that they will blow a few seats away as time approaches. I have seen seats as low as .05 but you have to get their e-mail notifications and be one of the first to book because they go fast.

Looks like the deal is gone. It was under specials; Detroit is no longer on the list. I found this only when someone posted the same rate for Phil to Mco. I guess it was just a weekend sale.:sad2:

Has anyone driven to the Detroit airport and parked their car for a week or so? I'd appeciate any recommendations of a inexpensive place near the airport to park our car. We're going in July!

Thanks!

There are plenty of good places to park your car aroung the Detroit Airport. One of the best deals I have found is through the Spirit Air web site. I copied the link for you:

Make sure you use the full referrer link above because it saves you big bucks.

The best deal I have found in park n fly hotels is the Baymont Inn. Around $89.00 per night with up to 10 days of free parking right at the hotel. No dropping the car off at a seperate lot.

If you do a web search, you need to check for Romulus Michigan.
