Airport wait times

Just out of curiosity I called the airport we are leaving form. I kept hearing that you should be at the airport at least 3 hours before departure. Well, we are leaving from a very small airport and wondered what we would do for 3 hours so I called. Thank God we only have to be there 90 minutes before departure. That doesnt seem to bad a wait. Our flight leaves at 6am so three hours would have been torture. Just thought you may like to know and want to also call your airport before departing to see when they want you to arrive. No need in wasting time there when you could be sleeping.

Thanks for your post, Praisehim5! We fly out of a very small airport too, and last time we got there 2 hours early (That's what they were saying to do then), and it was so boring sitting there! But I will call just to make sure, though. Thanks again!

I would not say the same for your return flight from orlando. Our flight left orlando at 700 am. Magical express left at 400 am. By the time we got there at 430 am we waited in line for over an hour to check in our luggage and then another 30 minutes in security. Hopefully things have calmed down but it was a nightmare.

I kept hearing that you should be at the airport at least 3 hours before departure.

That is much too early for a domestic flight, except in special circumstances, such as travelling during a busy holiday season or during increased security times (such as what happened recently).

Orlando typically has long wait times at many times of the day.

It's highly recommended that you arrive at MCO two hours in advance. I've waited in line to get through security for an hour on a non-holiday travel day.

The last time I flew into BTV it took over an hour to get through security, and then they wanded EVERYONE at the gate as well. SO small airports aren't exempt.

My hometown airport said between 45 to 60 minutes early is sufficient (the TSA link has a "0 minute" wait time! Not bad since we depart at 9:30 a.m.
