Hi gang,

Let me thank you in advance for any help you can give me. Ok, here's my question. I am flying in to disneyworld on aug 25th, but just saw the 3 day discount at disneyland. Having been to disneyworld almost close to 21 times, i peg myself the disneyworld know it all. I have a confession, i know nothing about disneyland! I'm thinking maybe i can fly into disneyland on the 21st or 22nd of aug to do disneyland and fly right from there to disneyworld, but when going to disneyland, where does one fly into?? Where is the closest airport to disneyland?? What do you think, am i nuts or visiting both disneyland and disneyworld in the same week, would be very cool???

One more, the jolly roger, is it a disney owned hotel, is it nice?? Thank you all again for any help??

Closest is SNA - Orange County.
Next would be LAX - LA

Santa Ana (SNA) is the closest (about 15 min away)

The Jolly Roger is NOT a Disney owned hotel property.

Actually...

SNA or otherwise known as John Wayne is the closest followed by Long Beach. Long Beach is a much smaller airport and I know Jet Blue flies there along with American Airlines. I'd avoid LAX at all cost and if you wanted another airport, fly into Ontario International airport. The commute from Ontario is much shorter than LAX and it is so easy to get in and out from there. My DH works in Anaheim and when on business they use SNA first and ONT as the alternate, avoiding at all cost LAX.

The only hotels owned by Disney are Grand Californian, Pacific Pier and Disneyland Hotel.

Jolly Roger is not owned by Disney. There are only 3 hotels onsite, that are Disney property. The Disneyland Hotel, Grand Californian, and Paradise Pier. The rest are offsite, most motel style places.

We'll be flying in to Burbank, which isn't the closest. But it was much cheaper then the others (for us anyway). Plus I haven't heard good things about flying out of LAX (straight up! LOL).

I have to disagree with avoiding LAX at all costs. Sometimes there is a significant savings when flying in to LAX. I've only used LAX, and maybe that is why it is easy for me to navigate, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

The Jolly Roger is an economy property near the Disneyland Resort. I recommend checking into the Ramada Inn Maingate (or Ramada Maingate - same property) since that is also an economy, but within walking distance, better, in my opinion, and has a food court. You can also try the Tropicana, Park Vue, or Anaheim Inn - all within walking distance and more economical than the others in the immediate area.

Airports in order of proximity:

SNA (John Wayne) about 12 miles
LGB (Long Beach) about 14 miles
ONT (Ontario) about 35 miles
LAX about 35 miles

Here's the deal, though: SNA tends to run quite a bit more expensive to fly into. Like, sometimes $150 or more. Not sure why. Long Beach is nearly the same distance yet you can fly into it usually at the same cost as to LAX, which is huge like any big city airport. Also with LAX, it's more expensive to get from there to Disneyland because of the distance. Lots of people on the boards prefer LGB.

As far as accomodations, is there any way you could do Disneyland the following week on a weekday, rather than over the weekend? Like Sunday-Tuesday? The reason I ask is, you can get a room at Howard Johnson's (another DIS board favorite, 7 minute walk to park) very close to the park with the Entertainment book rate of $59 a night for a standard room, $74 a night for a deluxe park view room. The Ent rates are available from Sun-Thursday that week. You'd want to call in-house reservations and talk to Lorealle to see if those rooms are available still at that rate.

Hope that helps!

Still wouldn't recommend LAX for those that never have visited So Cal ever BUT since you are traveling to DL and then to WDW then LAX would offer you the best flexibility and price options. Sometimes it is cheaper to fly into SNA than the others when you calculate the cost of transportation to and from the park but its a hit or miss. But here's the breakdown since I've used all of them...

Crowds, price, location: LGB
Distance: SNA
Commute to and from DL as alternative to the above 2: ONT
Price and flexibility: LAX

If one is not going to be renting a car, what is the best way(s) to travel from said airports, to the Anaheim area? a cab, I believe would cost the price of a first born, and buses? I have been to SO. Ca. before, but not by bus, always by plane, and or car. So I am a bit confused about how to best figure how to avoid walking many a mile, lugging well luggage! ;) seriously. :)
I hope no one minds my question, here. Thank you

There are shuttles and vans that run between the airports & Anaheim hotels, including the Disneyland Resort Express (Grayline bus with Disney characters all over it), SuperShuttle, Primetime Express, etc. They would be less than a taxi.

Price really depends on where you're flying from.

For us...the price difference between LAX and SNA is typically only $20 or so. It's worth it to pay the $20 for the convenience of SNA.

ONT and LBG are typically the same as SNA for us.

The only hotels I've ever stayed at are the Anabella and The Anaheim Plaza. I liked both but the Anaheim Plaza is more affordable.

Is it a good idea to reserve a seat on one of the bus lines? and if so, how far in advance?

Thank you :)
