Can you tell me if this plan will work? I just found out about being able to check your luggage in from your resort and wanted to know if I was allowing enough time to get to the airport.

Our flight leaves out of MCO at 8:55am, from what I understand, the check-in desk opens at 6am. (I haven't confirmed this with the resort, it's something I read on the board after doing a search.) If we check our bags in at the hotel at 6am, am I leaving enough time for us to get to the airport and get through security?

We are staying at the Yacht Club. We fly on American on Dec. 19. Flight leaves at 8:55am. We are taking a towncar to the airport.

Any advice would be most appreciated! :goodvibes

Resort Airline Counters open at 5:30 AM.
You need to check your luggage at least 3, but no more than 12 hours in advance.
As long as you're flying home on a participating airline (see the "What Participating Airline Means" sticky), be at the counter when it opens and you should have no problem.

American is a participating airline, but you will need to check your bags before 6:00 a.m. as previously noted. That's the tightest timing challenge you have. Having the town car pick you up by 6:30 a.m. should give you more than enough time.

I just read the sticky, thanks for pointing that out.
I'll book the air and towncar reservations now, just had to be sure it would all work out.
Thanks!

As was said, you need to have at least 3 hrs. before your departure time, so in your case you would have to be at the RAC desk by 5:45. I would be there when they open. I have seen them open as early as 5, so check it out when you get to the resort.
The other thing to keep in mind....the RAC desk is the exact same thing as checking in at the airport. Everyone who has a seat on the flight has to be at that counter, with their bags, and ID in hand. You can not have just one or two people get everyone's boarding passes or check all the luggage. I've been behind people twice now that have had to return to their room and get the rest of the party to come back to RAC to checkin.

Thanks, Goofy. I am so glad I found this information. I much rather stand in a line to check in at the hotel than at MCO. I think I'll try to check in as soon as they open to be sure we don't get held up there. Thanks again!
