I am my friend's unofficial TA so I need ideas of airlines to keep tabs on for flight to MCO.
She lives in Grand Rapids, MI. She states she's willing to get to DTW, Flint, Lansing.

So anybody willing to give me leads.

I'm 90% sure i'm flying SWA.

We live in Rockford and usually fly out of DTW on a direct flight on either Northwest or Spirit. I believe SWA doesn't have a nonstop flight. It is too expensive lately to fly out of Grand Rapids. Spirit is okay but the Smith terminal looks like something from a third world country. Lately Northwest has been the same price as Spirit and the new terminal is much nicer, IMO.

I lived in Mt. Pleasant and we always drove to DTW and flew Air Tran or SW. It's usually cheaper to fly out of DTW.

It's under $200 pp r/t if they fly out of Lansing on Allegiant Air to Sanford. Allegiant only books through their site (not Lansing Regional or any of the travel sites like Travelocity) - allegiantair.com.

Thought this might provide another inexpensive option, depending on how flexible they can be.

My sis just paid $153 a person to fly to MCO from DTW on Delta. She does still have a layover each way, but for that price she was willing to deal with it.

I paid $323 to fly out of GRR to MCO on Northwest. We are going in October, but she has just decided to fly, while I have had my ticket for a while.

Northwest out of Detroit is $117.00 all in on Northwest up till late November and that's flying midweek. It is $147.00 if you fly on the weekend. Those aren't bad fares at all. GRR is $235.00 on NW and UA. Hope this helps.

We live about an houre south of Grand Rapids, but relatives live in Flint. We have taken two trips in the past couple of years and fly out of Flint directly to Orlando on AirTran for not a bad price. We are in the same boat right now, trying to decide where to fly from for a good deal.

For what it's worth, even with the increase in price it's worth it to me to fly out of GRR over driving the 2.5 hours each way to Detroit. 5 hours on the road plus increased parking costs plus the sheer ease of getting in and out of the airport--- it would have to be a great deal to cause me to do that.

Lansing is only an hour from GRR and will have some steals occasionally. The Allegiant Air suggestion is a good one, but be warned that Allegiant only flies the LAN-Sanford route a couple times a week.

All that said, Northwest currently has seasonal nonstops from GRR to MCO. I booked mine last week for less than $250 for early January. In addition to Northwest occasional good prices, deals can sometimes be found on Midwest (through Milwaukee); Delta (through ATL and CVG) and United (through ORD). I have never seen anything remotely reasonable for my dates on American or Continental. These six airlines are the only ones currently flying out of GRR, I believe.

Patience, persistance and book early if you can.

first things first..... fire14: GO GREEN!!

second.... hi all you neighbors!! i'm over here on the lake (holland) very cool to see so many from the area! hey, maybe we should have a dis convention around here.....we could all compare travel plans! oh, how fun!

i really can't help with an answer, as i'm looking for the same thing.
we are going in december, and have been checking spirit and allegiant. (since this is my 1st flight (big, huge chicken) i really like spirits "perfect safety record" :thumbsup2 )
i think for us, grand rapids is out...too much $$$$

we could go allegiant out of lansing, my dad and brother both live there, and they could keep the van for us....no parking fees! then we would have to rent a car to get from sanford to wdw.

or spirit out of detroit....i'm sure dad or brother would still keep the van after dropping us off (cause they  me so!) then use the free shuttle to the world.

neither has their dates out yet for what we need. but i'm really leaning twords spirit....did i mention that i'm a chicken, and they have a PERFECT safety record?? :goodvibes

anyway, good luck finding a good price.....have a great trip!

GO GREEN!!

We just returned from MCO using Air Tran direct out of Flint. I must say this was the nicest flight we could have taken. The ease of getting in and out of the airport is a breeze. Well worth the drive from GR. No waits whatsoever!! I will use them again. :thumbsup2

Fire Up Chips!

Anyhow, I am flying RT 9/29-10/8 from DTW and the cheapest air I found (last week BTW) was actually American Airlines. For two people I paid $267. When I looked, AirTran was around $415, and Spirit was around $400. But I am flying on Friday/Sunday too.
