Airline travel for Christmas holidays

Would you think now is a good time to book travel over the Christmas holidays? Prices are high and I imagine they will only go higher. Opinions?

We will be traveling over the Christmas holiday and we bought our airline tickets last week (and yes, the prices of two RT coast to coast tickets was very high!). If you have firm plans, I would advise buying soon. There is little chance of any bargains (although it can happen) and you face the risk of not getting the flights you want, due to very heavily booked flights.

We've always bought ours the day they are released and so far again this year they have just gone up and up. Flight down Dec 21 we paid $160 -same flight now is $331. We fly from Buffalo and the flight down is with Southwest.

We purchased our airfare for Christmas (flying to MCO on Dec. 23, flying home on Dec. 30) the first week of July.

Our flight to MCO, via Airtran, was purchased at $170 pp taxes included. The same flight is now $411 (and that's just ONE WAY).

Flights home are via Jetblue. Purchase price was $205 pp taxes included. Cost is now $240.

I cannot believe how much the Airtran flights increased. Outrageous . If they had have been that high when we went to book, we would never have proceeded with that trip.

Thanks for the replies! I ended up buying tickets and paying more than I ever have but at least we are going. I bought Southwest tickets so if they do go down we can apply the difference towards a trip next summer. Ugh, that was a lot of money. But at least we won't be paying for luggage.

I'm in that same dilemma as we speak. =( the prices are outrageous!
