We are going on the DCL in January and my husband wants me to buy our airline tickets today because he feels the prices are going to go up. I keep feeling like if I wait just a week or so they may drop for a day or two for holiday sale. We fly Frontier. Any suggestions????? :cheer2:

I was wondering about this too. I know that analysts are saying the airlines will be impacted by Katrina and the oil industry, but I'm wondering how exactly. First I was thinking airline prices would be going up, but then I was thinking that perhaps people would be traveling less, sp we might see some great fare sales for early 2006 instead.

We're planning for WDW in mid-January.

I don't think TAs, most airline employees are anyone else can predict this. Using a LOGICAL method it would seem that if gas prices do go up then airfares would go up. However, if the airlines used logical pricing they they would not be losing near as much money.

If anyone could predict airfares they would make a killing!

I agree with CarolA. No one can really figure out how airlines price their seats. I have read about some shortages within the last couple of weeks at some airports. They had to scramble to obtain the jet fuel needed. If you find a fare you are happy with I would grab it. Not worth taking chances. You may end up with a much higher price later on. As long as you are satisfied with your fares what difference is it if they down a little. Peace of mind is probably worth a whole lot more.

Also, it is possible that airlines would resort to a fuel surchage instead of a price increase, to account for a remarkable fuel price increase. By the same token, they may do both, so you'll pay more for the flights, and then pay a surcharge on top of that due to the fuel prices.

This is the exact reason we booked our airfare for the Disney marathon today. We had been watching the flights on Air Tran for a couple of months, they stayed right around $104 one way. When I heard about the gas hike this morning, I jumped on their site, just to see what the fares were and the flights we had been watching for 2 months were down to $69 one way. I called my DH and we booked the flights. We figured with the way gas prices are going, the fares aren't going to get any cheaper than $156 r/t. Plus this isn't just a vacation we are taking, this is for a marathon we've been training for since May. I guess we could have driven, but I don't trust driving from Ohio to Florida in January--anything could happen! G/L on finding decent airfares.

It was just reported on the news that some airlines are canceling flights entirely due to fuel shortages - which is only expected to get worse..
