We've got a trip planned for WDW for August next year which I'm really excited about. I thought though this school holidays I might take the kids by myself to DL for a week. Spur of the moment type thing. But I've been looking at airfares and after all the wonderful deals that there have been, its really hard to justify paying the prices that are out there at the moment. All I can come up with is around $2000 per person. We have friends there at the moment and they paid just over $3000 for the 4 of them. I know its a different season but its really hard to pay whats on offer now.

Airfares to the US are really expensive right now and there doesn't seem to be any discounting going on.

I noticed that fares to Europe seem more affordable and my brother booked a trip two weeks ago to Paris. He paid sub $1400 per ticket.

Wow thats a good deal. Its amazing that Europe is cheaper that the US.
I really don't know if I want to pay that much to go. DH is saying do it but we've been spoilt and its hard to accept that its not happening anymore. I've got the US dollars that I have already got for the WDW trip and have more than enough to use some for this trip. So its just flights and accommodation. Something to think about.

I know what you mean.

What about something closer to home? Fiji and New Zealand are offering deals too.

I was also casting an eye towards Hawaii and noticed some deals for 6 nights return in Waikiki for about $1400.

PIO, but are the deals to Europe with dodgy airlines or "safe reputable" ones? This is something I was wondering.

Etihad is good, that is promising. Does he and yourself just follow Best Flights or are you looking elsewhere regularly for such deals?

The deals for the US for August next year come out around October/November this year.

That is when i am planning to book mine as August is the time we are thinking of going

I don't really want to go anywhere else. I would feel guilty enough leaving DH at home. At least with DL he's been several times so I wouldnt feel as bad. And it was me wanting to see the things that weren't there last time we went (2005). I guess I'll just save the money which is not a bad idea. :goodvibes

We are planning on using our QF points for our trip next August to WDW. I would have some left over but not enough to cover an extra trip for 3 of us to LAX. I'm dying to get that one booked. We've booked our DCL cruise but there is nothing else yet I can do as its just too earlier.

The airfare increase is not really related to seasons, it is a general increase resulting from a combination of three main factors: -
1. The recent imposition of a VERY high fuel surchage ($500) on top of what was being charged early this year and last year;:scared1:
2. The surge in demand from Australians flying to the USA with the dollar passing parity and the delay in planning and saving by many people, as the capacity has stayed almost the same as it was when V Australia and Delta started;
3. The willingness of airlines to rip off Australians compared to what those flying the other way pay.:mad:

Whilst it would be frustrating to pay the airlines more than they should get, travelling with the dollar much lower was also frustrating. It should not be the sole reason you put off an otherwise wonderful trip with your children to the "happiest place on earth".:cheer2:
