Does anyone know when airfare goes on sale for travel during Christmas holidays? Or does it ever go on sale? I have been watching both Air Canada and Westjet for flights from Orlando to Calgary after December 15. There has not been any sales, and the prices seem to be going up. Does anyone have previous experience with sales on travel around the holidays?

with that time of year, obviously, is that it is *peak* season...everyone is on holidays, kids are out of school, etc.:)

And airlines have us by the short and curlies, ie, not much chance of any kind of "sale"...

Just for reference sake, we're traveling in February..2 years ago, our tix cost $111 0/W - this year, the "seat sale" price is sitting at $209 O/W..

So my advice is, if the price is something you can live with now, buy it:)

For next time, the major airlines release prices around 330 days out, and if you're going at peak times, those are probably going to be your cheapest fares. I know, it's hard to plan that far ahead :goodvibes

The other "tip"...can you adjust your departure/arrival dates a day or two? Sometimes, that can make a HUGE difference, ie, flights on the 23rd are crazy, while Christmas Day, or even the 26th can be cheaper...

HTH!!

Thanks mbb,

I was looking at the direct flights from Orlando to Calgary for Dec 17 or 18. Although it is not too close to Christmas, the O/W fare still is $345 to $381. Just wondering if this price will be lowered if I waited a little more. It seemed awfully high compared to the sale price for Dec 15 and prior at $233 O/W.

I feel for you - those fares are awful! :earseek:

Have you tried www.kayak.com or www.itasoftware.com ?

Love those sites - free to use, don't have to register:)
Good luck!! Let us know what you find!

Try this weekend, they are supposedly have a special sale.

I did manage to score A/C for YYZ to LAX for $216.00 (less taxes of course)!

Good Luck!

Thanks mbb for the websites info and thanks Scratch for the headups! Boy, I haven't had much luck with the fares yet. Still seeing $289USD or $350CAD one way as the cheapest fare right now. It sure adds up when you have to buy airfare for 6 people.
