Airfare for March MDW? when would u buy

Hi we leave 3/31 out of Midway come home on Wed I already bought it coming home as it is only $89!!
But when would you buy leaving? I don't like the times or prices! I would even consider Tampa!!

I buy airfare as soon as I see it at a price I'm comfortable paying. Sometimes it isn't the best deal I've ever gotten---but seeing prices on flights fluctuate so much, I don't gamble and I lock in my price as soon as I can. In February, I got lucky and $75 round-trip airfare on Spirit Airlines out of NJ. This trip, I was renting DVC points and didn't want to wait until the last minute to find airfare, so I paid about $140 round-trip on Southwest.

In my experience, flight times themselves don't change by much. Is there another airport you could leave from? If you went into Tampa, would the price of a rental car negate the savings on the flights?

Unless the dates are high demand it is a good idea to wait for at least some kind of sale.

You are gambling no matter when you buy.

But my guess is that lots of schools have the week before Easter off for a spring break and the airlines know it. I don't see it getting any cheaper as more time passes. Delta has some 1 stop flights (Atlanta) for $119, but if you need to check luggage, there will be an extra fee for that.

If you don't care a lot about times, there may be some better prices as it gets closer to your departure. Keep an eye on www.farecast.com to see what they predict. (You need to be within 180 days of departure to get a prediction). I only rely on them if I don't care about times. Usually, booking early is better for price out of MSP if certain arrival or departure times are important to me.

We're going down on Thurs. night 3/29 and coming home on Wed. 4/4. I bought both ways a week ago. Coming home on Wed was cheaper than flying South. I think for spring break that's gonna be the norm. I think the prices will only tend to go up from where they are now so I'd go ahead & book it.

thanks that helps but the least expensive flight you have to change planes for we that is not my favorite thing to do!!

tempted to book it & hope that the other fares go down!!
