Airfare at the end of August is going to kill me.

I've been waiting for some Airmiles to be posted so I can book.

Well, it's taking forever to post and already I think it is going to cost me about an extra 1200 Airmiles which hopefully I will have in time for there to be flights available.

How cow though - air fare for four will be at least $2800 from Halifax if I can't use Airmiles. That's insane.

Anyone know if there would be a window that is traditionally a price drop for airfare if needed?

We are travelling the last two weeks of August.

Usually 4-6 weeks out the price will drop. Kayak might be helpful here as they may be able to predict a price drop.

Also check the airline websites frequently as they have weekly sales (which usually come with conditions), and you might get lucky.

Does anyone know of some good sites that will notify you of price drops by e-mail?

airfarewatchdog is what I've been using for quite a few years.

Happy travels.

I use flightnetwork dot com. Has better pricing than going directly through AC or WS websites and it shows all of the US airlines, which are typically cheaper as well.

$2800 to Orlando for the 4 of you from Halifax? :sad2: I'm looking at flights to Orlando from Vancouver for 4 of us for January and it's about $1800-$2000 and I think that is too high!! And I'm way further away from Orlando than you are! Hopefully a good sale comes along soon if you aren't able to use Airmiles!

I know! It's ridiculous. I think we are also actually closer than Toronto and it is so much cheaper from there! Maybe it's just the pricing this week? You are right - your prices are too high too!

A return flight the Labour Day weekend can be a killer in cost anywhere back to Canada (if that is when flying back). Have flown back once that weekend (TO too much so had to do Detroit) and have driven to avoid the flights too expense to stomach.

This. Our cruise disembarks the Sat before Labour Day & we usually fly Detroit -MCO, but the want almost $400USD pp! That's more than I paid Dec 20-27 last year. No thx. We're driving.

Last August we did Detroit $59 USD down to MCO and back via Tampa for $79 USD via Spirit booking REALLY early. Prices jumped big time as the Summer approached and if it weren't for the cheap flights, we'd again have driven. Finishing the Summer with a cruise is great price wise (done twice that week) but that disembarkation the Saturday of the long weekend just...well sucks in really driving home reality of the end of the cruise and Summer.

Prices tend to drop or go on sale on Tuesdays and Wednesday so check on those days. Also, you may want to play around with the ita matrix, it is not a booking site but rather a pricing tool. It will tell you the price of a flight on a certain day and then you go directly to that airline website on your own and book. It takes some fooling around to get the hang of but it is a fantastic travel tool.If you select the flexible days it will give you the whole month of prices. If you can be flexible with your day and leave a little before the last two weeks on August 18th American is showing 486/pp Canadian so the total is $1942 Canadian dollars for 4 seats once you add all taxes in for 13 nights (based that on your two weeks but you can change that too) Here is the link https://matrix.itasoftware.com/

We Booked with Delta out of Halifax Paid $315 round trip taxes in each through Orbitz for November. We used to fly out of Maine but the airfare from Bangor or Portland has gone way up and is more than flying out of Halifax. Usually pay $300-$450 with Delta to Orlando any time of year.

I think we are also actually closer than Toronto and it is so much cheaper from there!

We are going in early December from Toronto which tends to be a lower season and it's still costing us $900 for two with a 10% discount voucher using the lowest rate (plus advanced seat selection fees if we were going to pay which we're not and baggage fees which is an additional $100). Last year at the same time it was $1,100 plus baggage fees. Cheaper than what you're paying but still not exactly what I call a bargain. And we have to fly Rouge which is the worst airline I've ever flown with the smallest seats I've ever sat in. But the time selections aren't great and we basically have Westjet and Rouge to choose from. Rouge has the only reasonable times for the dates we're going. With so little choice, they know they have you and the airport fees at Pearson are high.
