Has anyone gone on an airboat ride within about an hours ride of Disney? I was thinking that this would be a cool way for the kids to see the gaters in thier natural habitat I remember doing this as a kid in the everglades, but that is too far a drive for this vacation. We'll be there at the end of this month, there will be 6 of us, the 2 kids , 2grandparents and my husband and I. We will also be going to the space center for a day. Any input is appreciated !

Silver Springs should have glass bottom boats. I'm not sure about the airboats though.

Last year we went on an airboat ride at Boggy Creek in Kissimee. It was alot of fun. Very noisy and very windy, but definitely different and fun. Saw mama and baby gators, mama even hissed at us, we were so close. Saw lots of different kinds of birds too. My kids, 13 and 10 LOVED it.

Thanks for the replies.! I saw Boggy creek"s webpage and thought that they are a possibility. DawnF did you think it was worth it? My kids 11 & 7 would definately be up for this . If I remember the ride was listed as 30 min long, did that seem long enough? Now I'm getting excited! Only 22 days to go!!:Pinkbounc :bounce:

It was absolutely worth it. It's not cheap, but it's definitely a fun thing to do. It was a long enough ride. You go out a ways to find the gators and then you sit quiet for a while looking for and at the gators and then you go back. We totally enjoyed it.

Hi Sher and Crazy. Another option would be on the way to the space center, or as a separate trip. My DS9 and I stopped at The Lone Cabbage Fish Camp. We went on an airboat ride for approximately one hour +. The guide/driver was informative and had a welcome sense of humor. We saw a number of gators as well as other wildlife including an eagle and, although onshore, a few Hells Angels. lol. The restaurant at Lone Cabbage is also pretty diverse/interesting, offering turtle soup and gator burgers. The also have the usual burger-and-fries fare.

The Lone Cabbage Fish Camp also advertises a down-home barbeque complete with country music and dancing the first and third saturday of every month. My son and I are hoping to experience this "event" during a future vacation so this information is based upon advertisement and not experience.

If the opportunity is there, I would recommend giving the airboat ride at Lone cabbage Fish Camp a try!

All the best.

We are home from vacation  And had a wonderful time:) !! We did end up going on an airboat ride at The Black Hammock Fish Camp outside of Oveido. Wewere visiting my cousin who lives in Oveido when we mentioned that we wanted to go on an airboat ride, he has passed by this place but never stopped. So he and his son joined us, 8 people in all, 2 boats. We had a wonderful time! Over an hour of boat time with a stop out on lake Jessup to get close to gaters, we saw quite a few as well as eagles, osprey, and numerous other birds. We all had a great time from the grandparents to the little kids. If you have a chance to fit in this kind of experience , we highly recommend it! Sherri
