Air travel..together, or separate flights?

I could see if you were royalty or something of importance. I kind if think it is silly for anyone else to even entertain such a thought.

No offense please, but I honestly think that you are being way to over cautious.

That is what I got from reading your post.
I am not being over cautious at all. IF you read my post, you'll see that it was my DAD who thought of this idea. ALL the rest of us disagreed with him. I ended with a question if anyone else had traveled like that before.

dmadman43, I see your point and, I think I'll put it to Dad just like that, even tho we aren't renting cars. ;) However, if we did rent cars, we'd need more than 1 since there are 11 of us going.

I'm sure to her dad that the family is royalty and something of importance. Boy oh boy, that was plain rude.

To the OP, we did it once when we had one child and left him at grandma's. We were new, nervous parents, and took seperate flights but never since.

Why, Thank You, Anne. :D

Friends of ours we're going with the wife's whole family to the Bahama's and her dad insisted they fly separately. His reasoning was that they were not taking their 2 children (They stayed with my family) and if anything happened to the plane they'd have absolutely no relatives on their mom's side of the family and since the paternal grandparents were going also they'd have no grandparents at all.

Did the Dad also insist that they drive to the airport in separate vehicles, or that they not ride in the saem rental car once on vacation (or share a taxi)? It just seems silly to FLY separately and yet do everything else together, when the flight is probably the safest part.

Kim, I truthfully never thought once about doing this!! In reality we have attempted to catch up on connecting flights with family before. Not sure what to say to help your FIL with this but hopefully he can see a logical reason for you all to go together at the same time. Good luck and have a wonderful time together :)

The only time DH and I have gone on a trip via airplane, we flew on seperate flights. Just call me Queen Scarlett! :p Our kids were very young and staying with the grandparents and we really worried about both of us possibly dying in a plane crash. One of my old frind's parents flew a lot -and never together- for the same reason.

I would do whatever is most convenient.:D I'm sure everyone will be safe & sound whatever you decide.:D

If it will make your Dad happier, just take different flights. Otherwise, I think you are safe in taking one plane. But why make him unhappy if it can be avoided.
