First some back ground. I don't fly very often so I'm not sure or up on all the ways to get a great fare. I've been seaching the boards for a good fare. I live in a suburb of Washington DC and my family of 4 will be going on a DCL cruise this summer. Yippee!! Okay back to my question. We will be going to Va. Beach from 7/3 to 7/10, our cruise leaves on 7/10. So I was thinking of flying out of Newport News or Norfolk Va. Looking at the fares out of here versus DC and I could save alot by doing this. Draw back is that most of the flights have 1 stop or more. I notice on flight the stop was at DCA (Wash Reagan Nat Airport) My home airport. So, now the wheels in my head start rolling. Going to Orlando no problem, but my question is on the return trip. Can I just fly into DCA and tell them to remove my luggage or can't this be done. Can I upon check in just tell them to send luggage to DCA only? Seems silly to fly in to DCA and then fly back to Newport News, get in a car and drive back 2.5 hours when I live so close to DCA.

No you cannot do that. The hub and spoke system is how airlines make their money. It's convoluted, complicated and ultimately unfair to the consumer...but that's another rant on another board.
The only thing you can do is only bring carry-on luggage and get off at Reagan. Otherwise, you are stuck.
