Hi everyone. Can someone who has stayed at OKW very recently fill me in on how the AC works? We are going to a 2-bedroom with my parents in 2 weeks. My Mom has asthma and to breathe freely she keeps her AC to frigid temps. I have already listed "sweaters" at the top of my packing list... but seriously, I am concerned that with these new energy-saver thingys, she is going to be sweltering and her breathing tight.

Are these even at OKW yet? Is there any way to fool them? Can maintenance override them for someone with a medical issue? I want to prepare my Mom if the room is bound to be stuffy -- she'll probably need to pack a small fan.

okw does not use this system (or didn't)

do you have a dedicated or a lock-out - if you have a lock-out she can control her temperature - if you have a dedicated - I suggest she sleeps in the livingroom (all the windows make it the coolest room). Just don't put her in the master bedroom - this is one of the hotest rooms.

Some of the OKW villas do have new thermostats, but you can set them for a wide range of temps and do not appear to be limited the way some have reported at BCV. (I've also stayed at BCV and found no problem with the comfort of the room.)

I'd also suggest turning the fan to "On" (instead of just "Auto") and using the ceiling fans. These steps also help to limit the intrusion of outside noises.

I'm sure you'll be fine with the AC at OKW.

Enjoy!

We DID plan on putting my parents in the master bedroom. If Mom gets too hot we can all switch around or she can move to the couch in the living room. My reservation form just says "2 bedroom." I don't DARE make another request -- we already said "ground floor/nonsmoking for medical reasons" and then I added "near a quiet pool if possible." If I ask for anything else they may revoke my DVC!

Our 1BR at OKW during President's week did have the new thermostats (Building 26- 2625) It did take a while to get used to. It seemed a little warm in the room at certain times, so I lowered setting a few degrees, then it would go back to the original automatic setting :( It was 72-82 degrees outside the week we were there, so we wanted to be cool when we came back in the room. It took a while but the room did cool down for us and at night we had no problem, it was very comfortable sleeping at night.
